Your dad did a great job painting the combine. It looks great and sounds even better. Speaking of tearing augers off, my dad tore the auger off on a power line pole one time with a TR 70 combine. Lol

Hi Jake! Thanks for the awesome tour of your combine. I have a 1974 White 7800 and spent last summer overhauling the cylinder gearbox, rebuilding the unloader bushing, a new declutch belt, new sieves and a few other minor tune ups. Took her out to do beans the other day and she performed perfectly. The howling roar of the engine never fails to impress! Thanks for the inspiration.

Thanks for posting the overview video. For a 30 year old paint job, it still looks good. It almost sounded like that 400 motor had the gear reduction starter on it that Dodge/Chrysler put on everything. I could've swore I heard the familiar starter laugh they were known for. You'll be lucky to have any hearing if you run that outfit very much. It's loud as heck on the video & I kinda like it. LOL Stay safe.
@jakeziegler5997 жыл бұрын

I have a 55 john deere combine that I would like to paint. Just wondering if your dad sanded this whole thing before painting or how is the best way to go about doing it.
@jakeziegler5997 жыл бұрын
Jim Pollock I'd have to ask him again but I think once he had any sheet metal or easily removable parts off he sanded the more flat spots and just had to paint over what was in tight areas. I'll find out for sure tho. If u use good primer it will bite into the original paint ok
@Ben-zh8bx7 жыл бұрын
I have a question for you Jake or from other corn growers (since I've never grown corn). I have noticed the last few years, guys planting corn 2 rows side by side then it looks like about a 30" spacing then 2 more rows of corn side by side then another 30" spacing, across the whole cornfield. Why and how do you harvest it?
@jakeziegler5997 жыл бұрын
Ben that is called twin row corn. It's away to get the corn spaced apart more and not have to change corn heads. It's on 30" spacing and the rows are 8" apart. One 4" to the left of the 30" center and one to the right 4" of the center. And a 30" corn head will still harvest it
@Ben-zh8bx7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jake, I knew you would know.

@howardyounger54567 жыл бұрын
the JD where right close to there. the gleaner had the K which would of been smaller then in 72 i think they went to the L which had a 53 inch cylinder but a lower horse motor unless you got the big motor which was 150 hp. diesel.that is in nice shape your dad did a lot of nice work. that sounds like it should be on the race track. that is so close to what my L is.great video Jake makes me want to go get the L going.
@jakeziegler5997 жыл бұрын
Howard Younger yep I think ur right the L is real close to it. U ot to get urs goin before it sits to much longer. Maybe an upclose walk around of it??? U could plant some oats for ur wife's horse. Thanks for watching
@howardyounger54567 жыл бұрын
i should get it going. but the tires are all shot that is why i parked it. ya my wife isnt here any more lost battle to cancer last April. i give the horses to one of the little girls that use to hang around here more then home.she is using them alot. kind of miss them but there all in a better place. i will do walk around it that is a shame that machine has set most of its life. it has 1500 sep hours and 2000 eng hours and has only done wheat. which is very easy on a machine
@jakeziegler5997 жыл бұрын
Howard Younger dang sorry to here that! I thought u still had a few horses. I bet that's girl liked getting them. That's a low hour machine! Prolly worth more out ur way to. Unfortunately walker machines don't do as well in corn so every one has gone rotary now. I'll be looking forward to the walk around
@howardyounger54567 жыл бұрын
yes the old walker machines where developed for small grains, there is a lot more corn combined now. i remember when a lot of farmer still picked there corn. i will do a walk around, might even get some batteries. i had one guy look at it to buy. i told him $2000. at the time it was worth that much for scrap. he helped himself to a couple of covers, and was gone. it set out side all its life the guy i bought it from bought it new he had two of them. i use to take a lot of picture years ago. i took pictures of that combine 15 year before i bought it. carma or somthing.ill show the pictures.
@jakeziegler5997 жыл бұрын

A lot of nice features on that combine for it's time. Does it have variable reel speed? We ran an IH 915 about the time this machine was built.

I wonder what the deal was with Chrysler that they put engines in all types of farm equipment? I looked at a self propelled Heston haybine that had a slant 6 Chrysler. That combine looks comparable to the Massey 750 that I had.
@jakeziegler5997 жыл бұрын
PA Farms what years did they build the 750? I know there the same size I was thinkin the 750 was late 70s tho. I guess Chrysler sold engines cheap lol. I think around this time for combines and such they needed higher rpm engines that's manufacturers didn't have at the time. By mid 70s they had phased the auto engines out. Thanks for watching
@PAFarms7 жыл бұрын
Jake Ziegler I am thinking they were made from '76-'84? Mine was a '78 and was fully hydro, my neighbor has a '76 with variable drive. I think the gray cabs started in '80. They had more electric control like header height. All 750s had the 354 Perkins turbo, mine had a straight pipe and usually smoked like a train when shelling corn. It was hit by a train last year... still have to do the video on it.
@PAFarms7 жыл бұрын
By the way, was that you in the oliver combine in the advertisement for half century of progress, was on this week in agribusinesses?
@jakeziegler5997 жыл бұрын
PA Farms that's to bad did u get another combine to replace it? We had a white 8900 and it had a 354 in it stream of smoke from one end to the other lol. What's agribusiness? A tv show? Someone else said something about it
@PAFarms7 жыл бұрын
Jake Ziegler it's called "This Week in Agribusiness" with max Armstrong and Orion Samuelson. I think it's based in Illinois. We get it Sunday morning at 5am. I'm sure it was you. Do you have a smaller oliver with a 2 or 3 row head?
@dalecornelius43747 жыл бұрын
We had a 73 model MF 750 (first year of production) hydro with the 6t.354 perkins. It would be a comparable machine to the 7800, 815 IH, 6600 JD, or L gleaner. The 915, M, 7700, and 760 MF were up to 8 row corn head/24' platform machines especially the 760. Looking forward to seeing you with it and the 525 at HCOP. We're coming up Friday and are planning on being there Saturday as well.
@jakeziegler5997 жыл бұрын
Dale Cornelius ok cool! Ill see ya there! But didnt a 750 have a 50+ inch separater? At least that ms what I gauge the size of a walker machine by. I know a 7700 was around 52" also. Non of them can touch a rotary anymore in corn
@dalecornelius43747 жыл бұрын

Jake Ziegler no problem hey I'm looking into buying a 2-135 ,is their any major stuff that goes wrong with them?
@jakeziegler5997 жыл бұрын
Mike Honcho there really good tractors only things that kinda gave trouble at higher hours was the o/u and the steering system. U will just have to take it down the road and see how tight it is. And the o/u just is usually slow to shift or quits completely if they go out.
@the_hillbillytransportatio31435 жыл бұрын
It should be a 413 Chrysler engine that what was in ours factory and when it was restored it was repowered with Cummins v6 engine then it sold at the farm sell really do miss it im looking for the smallest white rotary combine to use on my little farm I just bought I don't what the numbers are of the white rotary combines any help will be appreciated thanks
@jakeziegler5995 жыл бұрын
Either a 383 on the early ones or 400 industrial is what they had. Smaller white rotory was a 9320 and it became a massey 8560. Only 2 9320s built. Experimental ones

@jakeziegler5997 жыл бұрын
C&J FARMS dang right almost ready for the show just have to paint the corn head. Cool that electric fuel pump would be the way to go if it sits for any length of time. Thanks for watching
@cjfarms22397 жыл бұрын
ah okay lol, yes full choke and let the pump run it starts easy, but the throttle linkage is messed up cause it went runaway on us this spring
@jakeziegler5997 жыл бұрын
C&J FARMS dang that ain't good. U get it fixed?
@cjfarms22397 жыл бұрын
mostly, the varible speed belt broke then the fan caught the screws in the housing, and jacked one of the fan blades up, and it bent the pan, but we fixed the pan, and we have spare fan, so that isnt an issue either, probably get it fixed here soon, cause it runs great, but cant move cause the vari belt is broke lol
