My older cousin owns all Oliver Tractors and a Combine which this was his last one. He retired in 2005. His wife is still with us and those old machines are appreciating I told her. Wonderful family.

Steigers (inventors of the Steiger tractors-my neighbors) had three 5297 Minneapolis Moline combines back in the day. Those had 383 Chrysler V-8 engines. With the twin straight pipe exhausts, we could hear them miles away when they were operating. They later traded them for two 760 Massey Ferguson combines.

Jake really knows his stuff on this particular subject. It's really cool to see that he has put effort into keeping that old-timer running to this day. It couldn't have been an easy task accomplishing that!

I subbed to Jake's channel a bit more than a year ago; for anyone reading these comments, I recommend it highly! Among other things, he's a super mechanic. He just finished re-building an IHC 504 for a guy, and you can watch the whole series to see just how he did it. You learn a lot watching Jake!

That's a great video. I've never run an Oliver, but my Dad used to tell me that they built really good machinery. That was high praise from Dad because he was John Deere man through and through. Thank you for making these wonderful videos.

+Gregory Creech neat story. Thank you for watching. Oliver made very good machines. The company's biggest struggle was that they never had the dealer network that John Deere and International Harvested had. Oliver always remained a smaller brand. They had the machines to match the big companies but not the strong organization to build market share.

Now that's a cool old combine, you don't see them everyday. One guy around the corner from me still runs an Oliver combine, I'm not sure what model though, along with several Oliver and White tractors. I never realized how big a 7800 is though if it compares to a 915 or a 7700. It would be really cool to see it side by side with the IH and JD machines for comparisons sake. Great video BTP and thanks for keeping the old girl going Jake.

We ran a 5 row 30" on a Deere 6600 for a couple years. We made it by adding a row to a Deere 444 corn head. If Deere had made a 5R30", it would have been numbered 543. Thank you for the video, to both BigTractorPower and Jake!
@bigtractorpower
@bigtractorpower 6 жыл бұрын
+45Deere9500 that is very cool about the 543. What made you go to a 5 row vs a 6 row? What size and brand of planter did you run?

Is it true that White was the cause of the decline of Oliver and Cockshutt ?
@redironacres
@redironacres 6 жыл бұрын
Buzzbox3rd Yes. White bought them out and used to profits from them to keep their truck line afloat. It was the management that caused their downfall, not the equipment, like most people like to claim. Had white never bought them it's more than likely you would still have seen Oliver and cockshutt today.

Nice combine! We had the White version of this which came after our 431 Cockshutt. Eventually the White was sold off since our 1482 replaced everything else for a long time. Then came the 1680 then the 2188. I still miss these old Cockshutt derived combines. They were quite the units in their day.

My great grandfather bought a White 7700 combine which was very similar to the Oliver. We operated til 2001 when we sold it for a Case IH 1620 combine trust me it was a nice upgrade. We are still running the 1620 with on 1900 hours.

Do these guys get any money for showing these tractor. It must be expensive to show something like that because you have maintenance on the show piece, then the big truck and trailer to get it to the shows, etc.? Thanks to Jake for a nice tour of his combine, very cool....

Pete_ Hine_Of_PA no just show it for fun. I'm not very far from this show so I just drive it. It can be a little bit of an expensive hobby
@SteelyPaw
@SteelyPaw 6 жыл бұрын
For sure on expensive. I can't fathom what it costs to rebuild a large tractor or in your case Combine and in other cases, get it to the show and take it home. My hat is off to you that show this equipment and demonstrate it, etc. It allows people in other walks of life to see this marvelous equipment, and in some cases talk with the owners. I'm a retired Jobbing Machine Shop owner, so things like tractors and trucks and the mechanics there of enthuse me. Thanks very much for your reply Jake. And again, thanks for taking the time of touring your Oliver Combine, that is some piece of equipment and I'm sure you are proud to own that fabulous piece of farming history on wheels.
