1973 Plymouth Satellite Commercial featuring the Plymouth Road Runner. The focus is on the Coupe, but they do show the Sedan and Wagon. This is a restored version of an earlier uploaded film. Re-colorized and in HD. This is from the same negative

I remember looking through yellow stamps catalog and seeing you could redeem them for a 73 or 74 road runner

The last time I saw a 1973 Plymouth, Satellite was in my grandmother's driveway in 1973-&-4. I wish I could say, "Bless her sweet ole heart", but she was kinda nasty lol, but she sure had a hot car!

" Extra care in engineering" Chrysler Australia pushed the same theme as well and used those words when the VJ Valiant was released in 1973. Electronic ignition was heavily promoted too along with muchly improved quality control over the VH that went before it. It did the trick. I know in U.S. terms the 90,000 plus VJ Valiants sold would be just a drop in the bucket compared to your market but it did wonders for Chrysler in Australia.

What engine did those Valiants have? Ours typically had the Slant 6 which was the most reliable engine in an American car in those days.

@@MrMenefrego1 We had three Chryslers with that engine. Too bad the rest of the car eventually fell apart around the engine.

@@MrMenefrego1 I was not thinking of rust specifically. It seems to me the Slant 6 was built to outlast almost every other component bolted to the car.

The slant six was replaced in 1970 by a new six cylinder largely designed here. They called it the "Hemi" and it was firstly only available in 245 cubic inches with the VG Valiant. 1971 saw the release of the VH Valiant and along with the 245, a 215 and 265 cubic inch were on offer too. Those hemis were very powerful and quite good on fuel too.

@@area51isreal71 It is amazing that they developed new engines for such a relatively small market.

@@rightlanehog3151 So the story goes the six that was produced here was in the design stages in the US for use in light trucks. Chrysler apparently then decided that it was not worth spending the money because Ford and GM had such a stranglehold in the market there. On learning that Chrysler Australia were looking for an engine to replace the slant six the designs were offered to them with the promise of exporting the engine to the US. With that volume assured a new engine plant and foundry were set up and the engine went into production. Chrysler US changed their mind and stuck with the slant six thereby dooming the engine plant and foundry to an unprofitable future. To this day, the Hemi six is still regarded as the best engine ever produced in Australia.

Not bad, but they should have stuck with the gorgeous body style of the 1971 and 1972 model years. This body style was in my opinion far too square, stodgy and boxy. The Satellite, Road Runner, GTX and Road Runner/GTX were obviously morphing into something else at this point. Sad.

The federal government mandated bumpers and Plymouth had to adapt and change to include the safety changes.
