Had it for 18 years when one Sunday morning, some kid in mommy's Bonneville T-boned it! It was like my best friend died or something. It was just too far gone to bring it back to life. That kid hit my car so hard that the rear pumpkin and leaf springs were ripped off the car. I came out of it without a scratch. I had planned on keeping that car forever. Hey Uncle. My family owned a small Chrysler Plymouth dealership. As a high school senior, I ordered a '73 Roadrunner to replace my '72 Duster Twister. Not going crazy with big power as a way to order what I wanted, I specified a 318 auto with the new dual exhaust for the 318. It was B5 blue with white buckets and white tape stripes. It was a beautiful car. Growing tired of waiting for it to get there, I chose a dark green '73 Duster 340 auto from the inventory. What a great car that was with the white bucket seated space Duster option. I never regretted my choice although I had my share of Dusters (the fresh air vents were great, they hold 1.5 six packs). We did have a '73 Sebring Plus as a demo that I was able to drive from time to time and it was great.

One thing I enjoy about your cars and channel so much is that almost all of your rides remind me of what my cousin (who was practically my brother bc we were inseparable lol) and his high school buddies were dailying and racing at Union Hill back in the late 90s. I was around 9 years old when he got into Mopars, and young impressionable mind was absolutely blown by everything those cars were and stood for lol.. : Every noise, from the creaks and clunks from their old age to the glorious and throaty echoes coming out the chambered exhaust of some and glasspack exhaust of others . Every smell, that unmistakable formidable musk of a classic Mopar interior is like no other lol. And that very first time I opened the door to his '70 Coronet 500 for that 'just bought it so let's cruise it' ride, that sweet aromatic weathered and worn upholstery scent smacked my young self upside the nose like Cassius Clay served the swing himself 😆 Gah i could go on forever but I feel like my time would be best used elsewhere lol. ✌ Catch y'all later!

This is the best video so far this is honesty no bs,Im not a huge fan but I can appreciate any guy who builds their own car and fixes their own car. It's what being a car guy is about although some buy their way which never made sense to me. Why not buoild something get banged up and be proud when it's done. You have more appreciation for the car. You built a car with a factory specs in mind by keeping it orignal. Sometimes these old cars need to be restored and kept as orginal as possible when they are rare. If everyone changed the paint and modfied them we wouldn't have any originals left and then what would be original?

My 73 Road Runners had bucket seats, stripes, and the RR purple horn that went meep meep. Never went beep beep. My 73 Satty I bought when stationed at Fort Carson in 1978 was a basic Satty. Bench, standard dash, 340 engine, am radio, no carpet. Worked for a young soldier. In my basement I have stored a complete white leather interior for my someday-in-the-near-future-before-I-die-RR rebuild. Well, headliner and carpet aren't white leather, but the door panels are! I even have a Craig Powerplay 8 track tape deck with 8 track tapes in the basement. Bought my first 73 Bronze Bird back in 1975. I miss that view from the driver's seat looking out over the bulge hood. I'm glad it's a real RR and not one of those clones. Road Runner and Sattys had completely different vin because they were sold as different cars. Minor differences in the models. Satty's rear windows rolled down, Road Runners rear windows didn't, etc. Good video. Have fun with the Road Runner!

Tony- I sold & traded off a lot of Mopar cars & parts over the years. In the end, I just needed a solid rig to put together and enjoy. Too many of the cars just sit and aren't enjoyed, for a plethora or reasons. In the end, I settled on an "End-run" '76 Valiant V8 sedan in beige. Why? It cost me, after taxes, title, tags & tabs about $150 out-of-pocket. It has 88K miles, original, and a West Coast car...very solid and the interior plastic is not cracked & melted away. Over the years I collected & kept enough parts for A-bodies that I knew I could build a pretty nice runner (I'm not a big guy, so the A's are a fitting platform for me). I have a '70 340, 30 over short block. Heads are 308-casting versions off an '89 360. I have the fuel pump for an M-body police car (NIB) and the entire oil cooler set-up off an '89 Gran Fury AHB. Edelbrock Performer RPM intake and an 850 TQ (needs an adapter to fit the intake, I know) will make a decent induction system. transmission? I have all the pieces for converting to an A-833 OD stick- it's the A/F body length, Hurst shifter, and an iron case. Cooling system? I have the HD set-up; radiator, shroud & clutch fan. Brakes & suspension? 1 1/8" front sway bar, 7/8' rear bar, 340 suspension, and 12" pin-style calipers from a Daytona Charger (the Cordoba-esque one). Rear end I have an 8.75 that has been braced, the 10" x 2.5" drums (Aspen cop car), and a 489-case , 3.55 SG center section. I'm sure I'll add AC, do some other things to make it "Better," but the fact is I will drive it around having fun with my cattle dog. Is the car ever going to be worth a lot? Nope, not monetarily- but I will have a helluva lot of fun with it.

I had a ‘73 340 auto (w/shift kit) red with black interior and stripes and I absolutely loved that car ! I wish I had never sold it but I wanted to go racing and needed the money , not so bright , right ? Every single one I’ve seen since then doesn’t have that color combo and everybody I’ve talked to says they want that . I normally don’t care for a red car but it looked great on the ‘73 Roadrunner ! I still miss her .

I just bought one. Someone was in the process of converting it over to roadrunner. They did alot of great work on it but never finished... My wife almost left me over my purchasing this car.... Funny thing is that the license plate holder says happiness is being single.... LOL 😆

And when you do It's a clapped out 4 door. And Dusters.. Was at least one on every block.. I miss those days

How about the Charles Pougue carburetor. Do you remember that. The real reason why they added lead to the gasoline a long time ago was because it made the Charles Pougue carburetor not work properly. Now with all the camshaft advance and overlap you can't even use one if you had one. But the Charles Pougue carburetor would make the engine run on gasoline fumes and the fuel mileage was astronomical. 150 mph was probably an average. But you couldn't use a camshaft with overlap. No overlap period. And ignition timing could not be advanced either. It meant way less power and speed but the fuel mileage was unreal. Read about it

@@popwarner8029 Tetraethyl lead was added as an octane booster, because gasoline on its own has a really crappy resistance to spark knock/ping. Then they tried MTBE and it kills people whereas TEL caused neurological damage, it is lead after all. I wonder why there is such a massive number of Alzheimer's... now they use ethanol as an octane booster, and since the oil companies don't make the stuff they hate it and spread propaganda about it. I run ethanol straight and E85 on long trips or when I don't run my stills like the last few years. Been working on the vapor fuel thing Smokey Yunick did with the Fiero in the 80s, and since ethanol boils at 173F at sea level and not 450F like some parts of gasoline, its much easier to achieve the same effect. Mine is simple, I heat the fuel in the EFI rails to 200F rather than running it through a bunch of pre chambers and using special parts because of the heat required. The problem with gasoline is more than 80% of its energy goes to waste heat, ethanol only loses 58% of its energy to waste heat. You can't get around that, because of how gasoline burns and doesn't like to vaporize. Some parts of gasoline vaporize easily, at room temp even, but its more than just one chemical compound and its various components have boiling points ranging from 80F to 450F, and the flash points are all over the place too. That is why its so very prone to pre ignition and knock, because parts of it vaporize then ignite too soon with just heat and compression. The quickest and easiest way to increase mileage is to increase compression, work the fuel harder. Gasoline has the problem of knock/ping to deal with, as it sucks in that area without chemical help. Direct injection is a band aid to limit the amount of time the fuel is in the engine before its ignited, that allows them to raise compression ratios slightly. With ethanol you can easily run 22:1 compression, with iron heads, and running it hot too. The gasoline in E85 holds it back, but 16:1 is doable with E85 in a daily driver. Between 12:1 and 13:1 is the crossover point where ethanol starts getting better mileage than gasoline. Problem is you can't go dual fuel with 13:1, so you need to run a static ratio that gasoline can handle, which means you will get a lot worse mileage on ethanol. So even if Pougue got really high mileage, which is also claimed by the Fish carb, the loss of power is a large detriment. Getting around the really poor vaporization of gasoline and its inability to handle high compression and heat, is why gasoline engines are limited in mileage.

I've had several '73-'74 Plymouth Roadrunners, nobody really cared for these cars, I've always like them since I could never get a '68-''70 model!!! The '73-'74 Plymouth Roadrunner is a road worthy car, don't sleep on these cars, do them up nice, you'll be surprised of the finished product!!! Mopar or no car👍👍👍😎😎😎

Hi Tom, love the old school, I got rid of my fuel injection and put a carb and changed the distributor to a one wire, but now on new cars there is no place for a distributor, are you ever gonna change a new car over with another type of old school ignition, no one on you tube has done it yet, love your channel , mike
