A neighbor of mine recently picked up a 66 Belvedere with a hemi, and what blows me away about these cars is how quiet they are. I’d always thought a hemi would be loud and mean, but while it pulled very well, I could always hear the ticking of the lifters over the engine noise. @jeepfan9713 жыл бұрын
Its only simple if you know how old cars work and at times can be harder to diagnose than a modern car but definitely worth it if you are willing
@GregHuston3 жыл бұрын
If you don't have a fully stocked tool box and have years of experience of working on old 35-60 year old cars, it'll be extremely frustrating to own one as a daily driver. The mechanical simplicity is nice but you're constantly tinkering. Honestly nothing really beats the 96-06ish cars for simple reliable daily transportation. Granted there's no soul like a classic and not much of a hobby because they usually just work and parts are right down the street at Oreillys.
@Zephyrmec3 жыл бұрын
Keep the poly glass GT red stripes for show, put a set of plain Steele’s with dog dish caps for driving with appropriate size radials. Add a good set of gas charged shocks. It’s amazing the ride quality improvement, with discreet tire changes. It can be a pain to change them for shows but if it’s being judged, that’s a bunch of points. Correct hoses and clamps, all the little details add up. You might not want to go that deep, you can make it too nice to drive. I’ve done that in the past. It’s just a question of where you want to go.
@unclebob79373 жыл бұрын
@@GregHuston Totally agree, the ole carb and points cars are cool. But they require at least bi-yearly tune ups for daily dr. That said you'll never "sweat" the CEL again.

I think we can all be glad that you guys decided to dig a little deeper into the engine than you had first planned. Thank you guys SO MUCH for chronicling this project. This is the real deal for a Hemi car. All the shiny collector car auctions always profile the perfect Hemi 'Cudas, Challengers, Daytonas and Superbirds, but this earlier style B-body is truly representative of the true Detroit muscle car era. So glad that Andy is going to work hard to keep its vintage '67 patina, especially that paint. It's beautiful! And who doesn't love that A-833 4-sp "dump truck" gear sound. What I like about solid lifter engines is that they can sit unused all winter and when cranked up you still have the proper cam lift duration and overlap. With hydraulics you always got one or more random lifters bled down, you don't know which ones they are, intake or exhaust - or when they are going to pump back up.

In the sixties, just back from a year in Vietnam, and still in the Navy, I attended a school at the Great Lakes Navy Training Center in Illinois. While there, I was fortunate to purchase a ‘66 Plymouth Satellite with the 426 Street Hemi engine and four speed. God, I loved that car! The engine was STRONG, and even though it had a little over 40k miles on it, I could peg the 120mph speedo and it never stopped pulling (course this was while driving across OK, after I had been transferred to another school in San Diego!). It would get up to around 105mph just on the primaries of the rear 4bbl; when I floored it from that point and the remaining 6 throttle bores were wide open, WOW!
