The only shitty thing is you'd be scared to beat on it after you jhst put it together man i hope buddy doesn't leave it patina id sand it by hand if I had to but I'd never leave it looking like scrap it's too nice a car to be kept that way shell be a beauty when's she's truly finished everybody understands though it's all about time and money finding the time to work on it and the money to finish it I personally never liked the Mopar version of magnum 500 rims because they looked like a poor knock off of cragars which was all the rage back in the day but if the car came with them freshly painted with new trim rings makes a 67 gtx look smart upscale everybody puts the mustang 15 inch all chromed rims can't wait to see it finished

A neighbor of mine recently picked up a 66 Belvedere with a hemi, and what blows me away about these cars is how quiet they are. I’d always thought a hemi would be loud and mean, but while it pulled very well, I could always hear the ticking of the lifters over the engine noise. It’s truly a magical experience to ride in a hemi car!

If you don't have a fully stocked tool box and have years of experience of working on old 35-60 year old cars, it'll be extremely frustrating to own one as a daily driver. The mechanical simplicity is nice but you're constantly tinkering. Honestly nothing really beats the 96-06ish cars for simple reliable daily transportation. Granted there's no soul like a classic and not much of a hobby because they usually just work and parts are right down the street at Oreillys.

Keep the poly glass GT red stripes for show, put a set of plain Steele’s with dog dish caps for driving with appropriate size radials. Add a good set of gas charged shocks. It’s amazing the ride quality improvement, with discreet tire changes. It can be a pain to change them for shows but if it’s being judged, that’s a bunch of points. Correct hoses and clamps, all the little details add up. You might not want to go that deep, you can make it too nice to drive. I’ve done that in the past. It’s just a question of where you want to go.

The big question for me is what’s going to happen to all the sub par engine components that are now sitting on a bench somewhere. If that original direct drive starter is the correct 67-69 unit, and it hasn’t been savaged by a rebuilder, make sure to keep it with the car.

Thank you guys SO MUCH for chronicling this project. This is the real deal for a Hemi car. All the shiny collector car auctions always profile the perfect Hemi 'Cudas, Challengers, Daytonas and Superbirds, but this earlier style B-body is truly representative of the true Detroit muscle car era. So glad that Andy is going to work hard to keep its vintage '67 patina, especially that paint. It's beautiful! And who doesn't love that A-833 4-sp "dump truck" gear sound. I just wish we could have heard those old velocity valves open up on those twin AFB secondaries... a full-throated wide-open 426 Hemi roar goes right through your spinal cord.

What I like about solid lifter engines is that they can sit unused all winter and when cranked up you still have the proper cam lift duration and overlap. With hydraulics you always got one or more random lifters bled down, you don't know which ones they are, intake or exhaust - or when they are going to pump back up.

In the sixties, just back from a year in Vietnam, and still in the Navy, I attended a school at the Great Lakes Navy Training Center in Illinois. While there, I was fortunate to purchase a ‘66 Plymouth Satellite with the 426 Street Hemi engine and four speed. God, I loved that car! The engine was STRONG, and even though it had a little over 40k miles on it, I could peg the 120mph speedo and it never stopped pulling (course this was while driving across OK, after I had been transferred to another school in San Diego!). It would get up to around 105mph just on the primaries of the rear 4bbl; when I floored it from that point and the remaining 6 throttle bores were wide open, WOW!
