I am from Glasgow so in my opinion you are going to the wrong side of Scotland but while you are there, go into a shop and buy a block of Tablet. Your engine is running rich, time to rebuild the carb. (Make sure the PVC valve is clear if it has one too) While your messing with the carb, I would strongly recommend you replace the intake manifold gasket as-well although if that was leaking it would run lean. FIX THAT VACUME LEAK! Favorite line from the movie is when they were talking with the nun. . . . I don't think I can say it here.

Carb cars tend to run rich and the unburned petrol seeps between the piston rings into the oil. On another note, my Hyundai i10 has its oil filter mounted on the bottom of the engine in a little cutout so you can fill the filter with oil before screwing it back on so the car doesn't run dry at startup.

Older cars have carburetor instead of fuel injectors. The oil smells like gas when any of its parts is damaged or there is an issue with the system’s setting. A diaphragm handles the whole process of the fuel mechanism. The system is controlled by the gas pedal. The system can get damaged or broken as it is a mechanical component. For example, the butterfly valve that regulates the airflow can get jammed, which causes fuel to get blended with oil. The excessive fuel goes down into the oil pan and creates a distinct smell.

The oil filter is much easier to change on the 383, 400, and 440 engine, so is the oil pump.

Engine flush is the kiss of death for the gaskets on old engines. I myself would change the oil a few times when its hot before I did that. Marvel is good stuff though.

The carb is is letting the fuel past and its draining in to the pistons and fuel gets past rings when not detonated, I had it twice once on a Chevette and once on a Skoda both times a carb service fixed it, funny thing both times I had no problems so was doing a standard oil change to keep the cars running well and they were doing a lot of miles daily.

sad to see such a great car ruined - not a BB fan - the Deep Sherwood metallic was a gorgeous color - the 360 was a great engine but New Yorkers did not come with them - they were built with the 440 standard .. fender mounted turn signals here are missing - catalytic converters weren’t introduced until the 1975 model year - interesting to see a Monaco 4 door sedan - most were hardtops or wagons - my granddad owned a 75 Royal Monaco Brougham 4 dr hardtop in the same color (concealed headlights were introduced that year - this styling continued through the 1977 model year)

If it has an engine driven fuel pump the diaphragm might be bad and it is pumping oil into the crankcase when it is running.

Float is sticking, bad metering needles and clogged jetts. And when fuel pump diaphram starts leaking for those who keep saying that, it greatly reduces fuel pressure and 95 percent of the time would not have started so easily.

We run 1 litre of trany oil in with engine oil to clean engine up.

@oahgfojsdljknsdlfw well depends on how dirty the engine is. Running it for a few 100 kilometers or miles is ok. Then go from there. Just repeat till you start seeing the oil getting cleaner.
