This is a really nice piece of Pontiac history. I'm digging the bench seat and four on the floor, so old school. Whoever ordered this car knew what they were doing. People talk about this vintage being the malaise era of of the U.S. automobile industry when it really was everything pretty much after 1980-81.

That would be a good reason for the GT in 1974. What puzzles me is why they also had a GT in 1973. It's nice to have choices, but I never understood the reason for a 73 GT when there was already the 73 GTO, plus the 73 Grand Am. Maybe it was for somebody wanting something sportier looking, but with the smaller 350P engine, instead of the 400 engine that was the base engine for the GTO and GA, with 455 optional on them.

My guess is this is a continuation of the insurance fighter GT-37 of a couple years prior. I’m not sure but would be willing to bet a 400 could have been had in this car. Perhaps even a 455 auto. Regardless this is a beautiful and rare car.

I had one a 1973 400 4 speed canadian-built in Oshawa Ontario. I owned it for 40 years and while I was in the hospital in 2022 a neighbour complained about it and it was towed away as an abandoned vehicle. I finally got out of the hospital in May 2022 not even knowing that this happened and my car was gone. I could not afford to get it out of the impound lot so I had to let it go after 41 years. It was a really good car he was a really good friend. They made twelve of them up here in Canada.

I grew up in Hingham Massachusetts. I remember a white 70 Buick GSX, a daily driver, in a driveway on Scotland Street very clearly until one day in 1974 when a white 1974 Lemans GT had taken its place. Like the GSX, that Lemans was daily driven, and not garaged at night. After about 5 years, in its last days, I remember it had a bunch of grey primer spots on it, looked like initial door ding repair or something. And then it was gone, replaced by something pathetic that I do not remember.

My husband and I had this car (electric blue, white top and racing stripes) and he modified that engine in every way he could, and believe me, it was very powerful. I never knew before that there were only 285 made that year. I’d never advocate it to other people, but I loved it when we’d take it out on a long stretch of recently completed and still mostly empty Interstate in south Alabama. That car would GO. I was also a hot rodder in the mid-late 60s during the original musclecar era, but by the mid-70s my interest in this type of car had cooled so I never noticed any 70s era LeMans GT back in the day. This car would've caught my eye back then just as it does now. Beautiful example of a very rare model. Shame about the bad engine; that kind of deception seems to be common anymore with people selling collectible cars. I suppose Mecum would just say "it's sold as-is; buyer beware"

Thank you for this, the 1973-77 LeMans was my favorite of the other GM Colonades, unfortunately was overshadowed by the Cutlass and Malibu(close second). The pronounced 'pontoon' fenders/quarters really gave the coupes a sporty look, and those honeycomb wheels was the icing on the cake! LeMans Safaris were just as sweet that emphasized luxury, but get one without the faux wood grain, raised letter tires on Rally ll's (or honeycombs) and it's a sporty wagon!

Black vinyl interior with a Gulfmist Aqua exterior. I have owned this car since march 17th 1981 when I was in grade twelve high school. All numbers matching. Engine, Muncie M20 transmission and 4BBL carburator. 37,286 miles and still has the original T3 headlights. The other one which is Slate Green resides just up west of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I have not seen a 74 like this in a very long time - let alone a 4 speed! My best friend had this same car when he turned 16, was a 400 2 barrel auto - same color with white bench interior, and I believe his had a hard top. All of them very rare - almost none left these days. Love the GM A body colonade style, I have a 74 Buick Century GS 455 myself. Thanks for posting! Pontiac and Rod bearings.....yes sir been there. My other old car is a 1970 Tempest GT37 with 400 4 speed. I learned the hard way on Pontiac motors. The oil pump / pan / pickup is ok for general use, but if you are going for any amount of performance or drive it hard - a better pan / oil pickup is super beneficial! I found when I would hold 3rd gear during long sweeping RH turns the oil pressure would dive to Zero (oil pump cavitates). I took out a rod bearing on my nicely rebuilt 400, and a 2nd replacement 350 the SAME way. After fixing the 400 again and putting in the new pan and pickup no troubles at all. I can now dive into corners as fast as I want and no drop in oil pressure. Really nice car there....I see you drive her real "nice" , she should hold up just fine.

My next door neighbor was the original owner of a light blue 1974 Lemans GT. 350 2 barrel, auto, bucket seats, console, and had the sporty rear window slats, but not the GTO style hood this guys car has. Very nice car. More and more I realize this past august 2022 I sold dad's all original 455 powered 1975 Olds 442 with 12,000 original miles like new condition garaged since brand new from charnock olds in may of 75... Sold this car for 18,500. Buyer got a steal of a deal. I stand by my belief that was and still is the cleanest nicest 1975 442 on the planet with an original 455. Dad special ordered the car to his liking, red on red white vinyl top, swivel buckets, power windows/locks, cruise, stereo w/8track. Car is beautiful. I'm kicking myself but needed the space and the money. Dad died in 2016, he did want to sell the car back then but I talked him out of it. That's the only thing keeping me from hating myself

That’s one gorgeous car. I had a 1976 Pontiac Lemans that I bought on the street for $700 that was 1987. For my birthday my dad had it painted red. My mother had a silver Pontiac grand lemans, 1977. That, and the Grand Prix have always been my favorite Pontiacs.

Nice ride, Pontiac had cast connecting rods not forged steel and when they were revved above 5500 connecting rods would go out of round and spin a rod bearing. They weren't made to rev more torque engine's. Only super duty trans am came with steel Rod's in the 70s era. Over revved many Pontiac engines in my day.
