Not that I'll probably ever rebuild a TR6 engine... but I'm learning so much. You're a great teacher Elin. You explain things well.✅

You are so real. Even to the point of doubting yourself on camera! I love that. What self confidence! Ironic.

I especially liked your custom 'Rusty Beauties' degree wheel. I assumed you had made up some sort of clamp on the back side that attaches it to the crank shaft (it appears there are wood screws that attach it to something, a piece of wood? It would have been nice to get a view of how you put together your degree wheel. Very informative.

Hello, I'm french and I viewed all your videos on the TR6 because I am working on mine. What do you think about the way to check the timing valve described in the workshop manual ?

Elin, when you were working with Ceff Tush on his Tr250 rebuild and you found the camshaft was off by 180 degrees, what steps did you go through to figure out the camshaft was off by 180 degrees. Thanks

It’s possible that the gasket kit covers other BL engines, hence the slight difference in bolt hole alignment….🤷♂️

I think there are two different front plates on the TR6. One is for the early models with carbs and also for all the fuel injected ones; and the other is for later carb models ... hence the two gaskets.
@RustyBeauties3 жыл бұрын
Doesn't that mean that the block needs to be different too? I am not really sure, but you might be right
@rockymac35653 жыл бұрын
@@RustyBeauties Like you, I assume it does. After all, you did try to match the other gasket to the block and it didn't fit. I've rebuilt quite a few classic car engines and although I haven't done a Triumph straight-6 I do like a bit of a mystery! I was just as puzzled as you about the two gaskets so I checked various parts catalogues and two different plates and gaskets appear to be listed for the models I mentioned. Of course, IF I've interpreted the information correctly, that just leads to another mystery! Why go to the trouble of changing the block and front plate for what appears to be a minor difference? Mind you, it IS a classic British car so I don't really expect much logic to come into it!!!

Double checking a timing is always good.
@RustyBeauties3 жыл бұрын
I learned that double checking takes a few minutes, but redoing the timing when the engine is in the engine bay is hard :)

Elin, not to be a wise guy, but if you used the gauge for the cam lifter, why didn't you use it for the piston top-dead-center instead of the bolt. Seems you could see better where the upward range is vice how tight you get the piston to the bottom of the bolt. Thanks.
@RustyBeauties3 жыл бұрын
Good question! It is absolutely possible, but I have to do the same thing… drop it down say 50 or better 500 thou on one side, then same amount in the other and then find the centre. The bolt does the same thing except I don’t need to watch the gauge, it just stops when it reaches the desired position. I find it easier with the bolt. If I could do a bolt on the camshaft instead if the dial gauge I would.

Timing an engine is very interesting to me. As for the rubber pieces replacing wood they fall under my most used German advice, ‘Der Feind des Guten ist besser’
@RustyBeauties3 жыл бұрын
So you think the rubber is better than the wood? Well, you might be right. I liked the wood for the only reason it was easier to install LOL
@johnmoruzzi72363 жыл бұрын
@@RustyBeauties No I think it means “The ENEMY of good is better”... i.e. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. It’s good that they still make these kits but unfortunately there must be compromises for modern production...
@kge4203 жыл бұрын
@@RustyBeauties No, I’m saying the wood was fine for all these years and now it’s been decided it needs to be better. That saying is basically ‘leave well enough alone’
