Evinrude 4hp TOP SPEED! (Modified?!) 1970 lightwin.

I was actually shocked when this little 4hp got me up on plane. I guessed about 5-6 mph. I was wrong! Im 215 pounds and the boat is an 8ft tinner. Motor sat for 21 years. Replaced both coils, carb kit ,impeller, gear oil and fresh plugs. Still need to fine tune the high and low speed screws a tad.... Im guessing I could get 2-3 mph once it's dialed in. #evinrude #4hp #outboard #johnson #boat #fishing

Those were pretty strong runners, compared to the older 3hp models. Go a little heavy on the oil mix cuz those engines just have plain bronze rod bearings and like plenty of oil. Great little engines. Nice Adidas slides and nike socks also!

Lol. Thanks! I run it at 40:1. I really never run the motor that hard. Was just for the video. It usually just sits above idle for most of its use. Trolling ! I ran a tank of 32:1 through it when I got it out of storage. Man, it smokes out the lake. 40:1 seems to be a safe spot. I also run the high speed circuit pretty rich. Cheers brother!

@@noahmeeue I don’t have any videos. Did redo all the ignition though. You probably have a bad coil. They are cheap on amazon! Clean the points too! It could be as simple as cutting the spark plug wire back a few mom’s and reinstall the park plug boot.

Hey, can you possibly send me a picture of where your knobs are your speed and your idle?I have the exact same motor it is just not running at It's full potential, but everything is redone on it.I just need to find the happy medium for the speed

I don't have the motor anymore. I sold it to a fisherman. You;ll need to get it on the water and adjust your high speed screw. I adjusted it every time I put it in the lake. You should be at least 1 turn out to start with. Then go from there. 1/8 turns at a time.

Hi. Is there an advantage with twin cylinder over single cylinder?? In general. Do you know anything about the 2.5 johnson twin cylinder.

I haven't played with a 2.5 before. Im guessing it's the same motor with smaller pistons. Twins usually produce smoother power and don't have to work as hard. They all use a single carb and are very reliable. If you have decent compression. All you'll need to do is keep the points clean and keep an eye on your coil packs. They get moisture in them and start to crack. Replacement parts are super cheap.

@@rainerneumeister5239 No problem. Its a great trolling motor and seems kinds quick for what it it. I was running it on a very small/light boat though. lol. Id expect 5/6mph on a 10,12 foot boat. This boat was about 8feet long. flat bottom.

@@rainerneumeister5239 If the motor runs good. You should have no problem seeing that kind of speed. 2.4hp is like a 5hp 4stroke.
