The last time I think this was on the boat running it was probably before 1994 or so when we lived in the UP. It sat in the barn, next to the ole' K5 referenced in your earlier video from then on. It looks like it's a ripper... Looking forward to seeing it back out on the lake this summer.

I'm super impressed how well it ran after sitting so long. No carb service or anything! 🍻

Just picked up a 9.8 that’s been in a mates back garden for years (Manchester,England) this is very helpful as it’s my very first outboard rodeo ! Cheers,great stuff.

Proof that OLD GAS ,was better back then . I work on old 2 strokes . Snowmobiles and outboards. Old gas in a sealed tank was better . Than New gas that's a year old . Nice outboard .

Hi there! Thanks for the comment! It really is proof. I was very surprised that I didn't have to do a dang thing to get it to fire up. Sweet little machine 🍻

I would still like to tell about the Johnson. I'm learning a lot from you. I'm a beginner and I just picked up on a 9.9 been sitting for years. Could use a lesson on that motor also. If you have time. Thanks

I'll do my best! With fall coming I have a lot of house stuff to do so my time in the garage is a bit limited. It'll happen, but it may be after all of the leaves have fallen 😆 I'm glad I have been able to help 😊

Heck after cleaning the motor, place it with stand in the hot tub and keep working. A "mechanical advance" is that moving the coil in relation to the flywheel magnet(s) to adjust timing? Thanks for the video, always seem to learn something new.
@TractorFella10 ай бұрын
Hey bud! I like the hot tub idea... relax the muscles while fixing stuff! 😆 As for the mechanical advance, yep, that's exactly how I understand it! You're very welcome. Thanks for tuning in! 🍻

Ciao, Very interesting video, well done, clear , no music. Starting from 10:18 you show a Serial Number vs year of make cross reference table, how and where did you find it? I am trying to bring to life a 9.8 HP 100 with serial number 4815732, very similar to your 7.5 HP. I ask: 1) which year of make? 2) what does the 100 mean? 3) where may i find a service manual? Tks for your reply from Rome-Italy.

Ciao! I think it's so neat hearing from people from other lands. 🙂 Give me a little time, and I will see what I can find for you. 👍🏻👍🏻

@@TractorFella Ciao, Faster then the ligth in answering. The info i asked you are not life saver , thus take. your time in finding them, but ,please, don't forget Ciao Antonio from the other side of the pond🤣

Ciao, Antonio! You, sir, have a curious engine. If you look at the link below, partway down is a large table: www.marineengine.com/mfr/mercury_models.html?srsltid=AfmBOoqdZV-viSOTJ41VVNIA0-W9hD4eZ29TQfdt_Gyelx9-z6FoVbDi If you look at all of the 9.8 HP engines, the Mercury 100 engine serial number range doesn't match up with your serial number. The range that does match your number is a 1977 Mercury 110. Is it possible it is a 110 rather than a 100? The Mercury 100 is pretty rare and I found a little info here on a forum: www.screamandfly.com/showthread.php?217104-Early-1960s-Mercury-100-10hp -Aaron, from the other side of the pond 😁

@@TractorFella dear Aron, You are a super super super smart guy and shrewd. You was rigth, i did a mistake: it is a 110 model and not 100. I was in a hospital ,and still am, for a lung surgery when I posted my question. Am i justified 😜? Tks a lot for your search Ciao ciao Antonio
@TractorFellaАй бұрын
@antoniosidoni5310 You are 100% justified! My goodness! Get some rest and get better soon so you can go work on your engine 😁 Best wishes on a fast recovery. 🍻

Maybe the O rings go on the studs then the impeller case then the nuts? Just a thought there maybe old ones still in there anyway.

A tip if you run the outboard in a bucket/barrel add some dish soap to the water. That is just un burnt fuel oil mix you are seeing
@TractorFella10 ай бұрын
Interesting... I would have never thought to do that. Thanks for the tip! 🍻

Its funny how much more complicated these Mercury's were compared to the OMC outboards of their vintage.
@TractorFella10 ай бұрын
I'll have to look into OMC. Can't say I know much about them! It is funny, though, the differences between manufacturers!
