The Czeck goalie came too far out trying to cut down the angle. Sittler was a goal scorer. He knew exactly what to do. And The Great Bobby Orr was named the MVP of this Series. Orr was well past his prime due to numerous knee injuries but Bobby Orr was better with one leg than most with 2. The guy was magical. he could and would kill a 2 minute penalty by himself. Bobby would rag the puck and dance around others with grace and ease. You really have to see what he could do. That Canada Cup Team had 18 Hall Of Famers on it. Im a Bruins fan but I love the game of Hockey everywhere. I did not realize that Dennis Potvin was the greatest at his craft in those days. I definitely have to google Potvin. I believe he played for Chicago. The Canada Cup was better than The Stanley Cup in those days

Although the best Russian players were missing from this Tourney, their Top Core Mikhailov,Petrov,Kharlamov, and the other did play these Czechs in the 1976 and 1977 World Championships and still lost against them. The only time the Soviet Union beat the Czechs in 1976 and 1977 in any Medal Round Match was in the 1976 Winter Olympics. This was about the best Czech National Team put together ever along with their 1998 Olympic Gold Medal winning Team.

+d2d4e6 The commentator (Ken Dryden) is referring to two disallowed goals by Canada. The first one was scored in the net which the Czechoslovakian player had just knocked off its posts deliberately (he got a penalty for this). The second was scored right at the 10 minute mark in the 1st OT period, which was being treated in this Tournament like the third period in international hockey, so the goal didn't count, as play stopped at the 10 min. mark to change sides.

It is a team effort - every player counts towards the same purpose. Whenever Orr started an deep offensive, his partner defense man (Lapointe, Savard, ...) would back him up, to prevent a break-away from the other team. Often also, when Orr would be in front of the opponents net, his wing or center would cover his position. That is how the team works. Hull was one of the most powerful player and had the fastest slapshot (at the time). His team mates would clear the area (open the space) so he could unleash the shots he was so famous for. Hockey is a great sport, enjoy! Ciao, L

+d2d4e6 Actually, Canada and Czechoslovakia played to a 3-3 tie in 1972, in Czechoslovakia, just after Canada's gruelling 8 game series against the Soviets. See kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJfGg3uihayBqqM. Also, you're incorrect about 2 disallowed goals for Czechoslovakia in Game 2. The 2 disallowed goals were for CANADA. I gave the details in a comment above from 5 years ago. Canada certainly did lose 1-0 in the Preliminary Round, in what (I think) was one of the best games ever played. In Game 1 of the Finals the score was Canada 6, Czechoslovakia 0. And this game, of course, ended up 5-4.
