That surface on the spindle is a machine surface and needs a thick flat washer, it helps the tapered shaft seat into the spindle better and keeps that surface from getting wallered out and helps the cotter key hole line up easier.

Those aftermarket upper control arm bolts aren’t knurled like the originals. They are supposed to be knurled so that the bolt doesnt spin when your alignment guy starts loosing those nuts. You should tac weld them or your alignment guy is going to curse at you a lot lol.

The tapered shaft, spindle, washer, nut, and cotter key function as a solid unit, leaving out the washer is risking that taper not fully seating in the spindle. I have never seen it once without the washer on any A frame suspension ford, chevy, dodge, plymouth, etc.

lookn sick ;) , its a pain when ball joints spin, I use a jack under the lower arm to help them grip when trying to tighten.
@Thegaragefiles8 жыл бұрын
Yes tighten the castle nuts tight the ball joint does all the movement, not it is not required to have a washer haven't found any that does, Aldo ride tech probably would of supplied if it was required, looks great Eric. Can't wait to see what engine your going with

All of your is suspension is suppose to be stiff, I would leave the upper and lower bushings loose when your adjust the shocks. When you have it on the ground let it seek its own level, then adjust the shocks to the preferred right height, then tighten up the collar on the shock and tighten up the control arm bushings. If you tighten before hand it will have constant pressure and twist on the bushings, but if you wait until you have the right height adjusted then there will close to zero pressure on the bushings. Over the years I have done many front end suspensions and it just helps when the new suspension is settling in. My front end guys says it also helps the front end keep alignment a lot better.
