Nice work! I built a new upper tower for my 1953 Chev to allow for my shockwaves to fit. I may do what you did on the lower control arm if I need another 1.5". Great video - helped me get my head around it.

Thanks for posting this. I’m in the process of converting my car to shockwaves. Just one suggestion, I would round those corners for the frame clearances you made. Squared off edges like that tend to crack. Good luck with your setup

Hello if the air shock only has 2 and 3/4 inch travel, how can you slam it way down to the bump stop? I'm new to air rides and am trying to educate myself on the subject. There must be something I'm not getting. Would you be kind enough to enlighten me? Thank you

This would be easier to explain with a picture, but I’ll give it a shot. You can obtain quite a bit of lift with very little travel from your bag by using leverage. By mounting your bag closer to the chassis on the control arm, you can double and even triple your lift at the ball joint. I was able to turn 2 3/4 inches of bag travel into about 6 inches of lift at the ball joint. But this premise doesn’t work if you choose to mount your air bag right over top of your balljoint or say, rear axle. Let’s say you have a civic and swap the factory strut out for an air strut that mounts in the factory location above the balljoint. If your air strut has 4” of travel, then you will only have 4" of lift. Same if you mount a rear bag over top of the rear axle. 4" of travel will give you 4" of lift. But move that bag half way down your control arm, and now you can use leverage to gain twice as much lift. Hope this made sense. Like I said, it’s easier to understand with a visual aid.

@averagedadsgarage Hello, thanks so much for taking the time to answer and explain to me. It now does make more sense in my head . Again, thank you, it's truly appreciated.

How do you like the shockwaves? How is your modification working?
@averagedadsgarage
@averagedadsgarage 2 жыл бұрын
The shockwaves are awesome. The modifications work as they should. The only issues I’ve had, have been with the bushings and ball joints that came with these cheap arms. Have already had to start replacing them.

@@averagedadsgarage Hey Thanks for responding, Im on the fence right now, only reason I'm thinking about the shockwave is to be able to raise my ride up an inch or 2 while driving on roads that are uneven that usually make my tires hit the fender well, not sure if these are what I'm looking for, we have some really uneven roads around here that I cannot go over 20MPH without my tires hitting the fender well bolts and it tears the tires up. I have UMI arm's, the bushings are delrin and the balljoints are a good quality. Haven't had any issues yet, 11000 mile so far.

Is that bottom bolt enough to fasten the bottom of the shockwave? Im having a hard time finding that separate piece to fasten the bottom of the shockwave to the control arm for my 61 Falcon
@averagedadsgarage
@averagedadsgarage 8 ай бұрын
Yes. Been running it for four years now and it’s been great. Make sure it’s a grade 8 bolt.

@@averagedadsgarageout of curiosity since the bolt doesn’t fill the full shockwave circle, wouldn’t this introduce rattle or possibly even cause the shock to jump a little if going over a bump in the road?
@averagedadsgarage
@averagedadsgarage 8 ай бұрын
@@usamatuqan1623 the bolt I have in there fits tight. And I have spacers on both sides of the shockwave to keep it from sliding side to side on the bolt. No play, no noise.

I see that those bags come with a threaded base like coilovers, is the height adjustable that way? I can't wrap my head around how that would work with an air bag, but the threads are are there for a reason I imagine, I'm looking to put air bags on a truck with after market control arms as well
@averagedadsgarage
@averagedadsgarage 5 жыл бұрын
It only looks threaded. They’re not adjustable like coil overs. Just ribbed as part of a visual design.

Why not buy shorter shockwaves?

I'm a corporate Welding supply branch manager and not wearing a welding (4:53) helmet shade 9-13 is hands down the quickest way to permanently damage your vision. And no, closing your eyes does not prevent damage. Using the mig gun as a hammer and tapping material to set, questionable at best. Im sorry but not something you should openly post - believe me.

Same topic different question. Did you know when you installed your system you would have to drop the drive line (if you have a cross member) and the rear shocks? Ive been told this is one of the headaches with owning one of these systems.:(((( Thanks. ps. I was told the Air/shock combo’s are not heavy enough for anything but a roadster and don’t have much travel.
@averagedadsgarage
@averagedadsgarage 3 жыл бұрын
So I only put shockwaves in the front, and no part of the install would have required pulling the driveline. And they make these shocks vehicle specific as well, for most full size muscle cars. They can easily take the weight. They do have less travel than a bag, but I haven’t found it to be an issue at all. Definitely glad I went with these struts.

@@averagedadsgarage No Sir I guess I didn’t explain well enough. This all has to do with the rear end. When I have to change a tire I have to remove the driveline ( I have since removed the cross brace so I don’t have to do this step) and the rear shock. Then jack the frame up to let the tire/wheel clear the lug bolts. A real pain but I guess it comes with the territory!! Thanks for the reply.

How do you like those front control arms? I have been looking at those on eBay.
@averagedadsgarage
@averagedadsgarage 3 жыл бұрын
They’re ok. The ball joints that come with them are junk though. I only put a couple hundred kilometers on them and I’ve noticed that the upper ball joints have a lot of play in them. I’m going to have to source out some replacements that will fit.

honestly looks so wrong to have so much hanging below the control arm and having the spring pocket so close to the shockwave They are to expensive to destroy I would have removed the spring pocket and made my bracket inside where the spring pocket is and nothing is below the control arm while driving. really duplicating what the manufacture did with their strong arms lower control arms
