My first car was a 77 just like this one. I picked up in 1987 for $2k. Absolutely awesome. Till this day I still regret selling it.

I bought a brand new 5 Speed, 1977 280Z for $7900 and drove it for 8 years until someone stole it. It was found several months later burned and left in a field. My insurance company paid me $4300, costing me approx. $500 a year to drive a great car. It was the best car I ever owned, in fac,t it was just about bullet proof.

It never fails to amaze me how mid to late 70's Japanese cars are so similarly laid out to all new cars. Even the gauges aren't really dated.

MrWafflez000 I know this all too well, because I had a U.S. spec. '74 (Buick) Opel Manta A with the same hideous bumpers. I've gotta say though, that 280z is sexy in silver. I owned a white '73 240Z for a few years when I was in college. Great car. Rust bad! ;-) Cheers! P.S. You gonna eat that waffle? :-D

I owned the exact 5 speed factory z, original color was gun metal blue. Best car I ever owned. I put 160k on it, and was in the process of restoring it when a dwi driver hit it in our off road driveway, sparing the neighbors house. Had to sell it for parts since it was beyond totaled. I did get my original investment back between insurance and parts, and got to enjoy driving for 10+ years. Plus this car saved my life more than once because of the great handling. What a great car!!!

Nice video. I have a red 77 Z 5 sp with black interior. Had it 32 yrs. GREAT true sports car. It gets lots of smiles and compliments. Your cars exhaust note indicate a possible manifold warp. They all did sooner or later. Mine has a slight leak and a new stock manifold isn't available. I've got a line on a nice header and free flow exhaust kit that won't be loud until I jump on it.

I literally just bought a 1978 280z as my first car about 4 weeks ago. It is both the best and the worst. It has no power steering, no ABS, no electric anything, and no airbags. It absolutely oozes cool, but if you don't know what you're doing, it WILL kill you.

In 1977-1978, a 5-speed manual transmission was an option for the Datsun 280Z over the 4-speed manual and 3-speed automatic versions. Just want to let everyone know.
