I know u might not see this, but I’ve fixed everything on my 78 f250 alone and this was the last issue I couldn’t figure out. Can’t afford a tow. Don’t have a neighbor or father to help. So thanks for being that person! Much appreciated

Sir, thank you very much for your efforts to make this video. An excellent video for people like myself with no idea. I'm parked in a car park in an Australian country town replacing the pump on my Dad's 1976 Ford F250! Thank you very much!

Thank you for the video, I have a 79 ford f100 with a 302 engine and a edelbrock carb. Replaced the fuel sending unit, and the fuel pump. Thought that would make it run, but it's doing the same as yours. Start while it's got gas poured into the carb then quit. I don't know if I put the pump in with the shaft in the wrong position? But that's what I have going on. Plus I'm NOT a mechanic or anything like one ! Lol I guess I will pull the new pump and bump the starter to see if it's in the right position? I thought well I can figure out the old school vehicles? But I think I need help! Lol thanks again friend.

You may very well have the pump put in correctly. I went through 2 pumps before I found a good one. Parts are not as good as they used to be it seems. Just make sure fuel is going into the pump, and check that is going out of the pump. You can remove the pump and work the lever by hand (pretty tight usually) if you can feel for suction at one outlet and pressure coming out the other outlet then chances are the pump is good. It helps to have an extra pair of hands or a vice to hold the pump. When I finally found a good pump, it was actually putting out too much pressure and flooding, over flowing the carb. Be careful. GAS is very flammable You do not want a fire. I ended up putting a regulator in the line before the carb inlet. Caution is the word and some help would be good. Thanks !

1978 ford f350....fuel pump pumps OK from a seperate gas container, but not from the gas tank...(half full) . Removed and replaced the hose from the pump to the steel gas line......no gas was flowing. Used some compressed air to unblock ? the line, with the gas cap removed....I could hear the gas bubbling in the tank, then gas would flow a few seconds and quit. Any ideas ?

Sounds like a restriction in the fuel line somewhere. Half a tank should give some nice gravity flow to the fuel pump and it does not do that. So I would begin looking for a line restriction from the fuel pump back. If it your F350 has dual tanks and I believe it does, the culprit may be in the switching valve. Loosen a line connection at a time until you find some quantity of flow that you know is not a trickle. The air pressure is pressuring the tank to push by the restriction (trickle) until it dissipates, then the trickle stops. Seems when I changed my F250's fuel pump I have to raise the rubber hose from the tank line just to keep gas from running out with only gravity flow. Let us all know what you find when you find it. Maybe someone added a fuel filter in the line back to the tank at some time and it may be clogged. LIne wrenches and very good vice grips may make your quest easier to find what I believe to be a restriction.

@@SteveAZ711 Thanks for the prompt reply. I am not aware of two gas tanks on my Ford....no switch on the dash and only one fuel gas cap inlet. I am the only owner, so any inline filter would be my me...and there is none. Perhaps the rubber hose from the sending unit to the steel linerunning forward is soft and collapsed internally or the filter on the sending unit is plugged...doubtful as I blew air back into the tanks to clear the filter....still leaves soft hose at the tank. Second unlikey though...is a weak fuel pump... doubtful though if the gas tank is supposed to be gravity feeding it. The truck has not run for 3-4 years....started and run a month ago, and it ran OK, idled fine. Now last week it would not keep running, unless from a seperate fuel resevoir.

I would check the fuel tank sending unit and its filter. Most likely clogging up. Air is not going to fix the issue as whatever is causing the clog is just getting sucked into the line after the pressure is gone. Also, a weak or worn fuel pump may not have enough pressure to pull the gas from the tank as well. It is either a clogged line or a weak fuel pump. Check the fuel line for leaks too.
@pvanb2 Жыл бұрын
@@SteveAZ711 That would be most likley....it was running fine 3 weeks ago, now, after adding more gas, it would not run...except from a seperate gas container.....so something in the tank, or the hose from sending unit to steel fuel line....most likely in the tank...the filter as you proposed.. Thanks

How did you reach the bolt closest to the engine? Having a hard time getting to it

I used a very short 1/2in. box end wrench to break it loose. It may be only 5in. long. I then unscrewed it with my fingers. Thanks!

Sometimes if you turn the crank a few degrees then the tension on the fuel pump arm will be a bit less while you are pushing against the cam shaft.

Couldn't a guy put the fuel filter before the fuel pump? On the in comming line instead of the line after the pump Goin to the carb ?
@SteveAZ711 Жыл бұрын
Maybe. It would be more difficult to change and there may not be enough suction from the pump to pull the gas from the tank.
@stevepearson6316 Жыл бұрын
@SteveAZ711 it should be after the pump , but the mechanic said it would work fine before the pump. There isn't enough room to put the filter after the pump plus the fuel line is a hard line. I doant want to cut it. I'll find out soon enough

@SteveAZ711 welll I didn't do the filter thing because I wanted to make sure new pump works and that I get it installed right ...I did but fuel pump is not pumping and it's a new pump , f150 had duel tanks but only one is hooked up , not sure if I switched the the thing to main tank or aug... someone took out one of the tanks so if the diverter is still plumbed in I might have accidentally switched tanks and I doant know what tank is the main tank .....lol and I took the new pump out ...didn't even know it had a switch to change tanks ..lol

Hello I’m trying to remove the fuel pump from my 78 pinto wagon 2.3L and it’s crowded to hell. I’m not sure if I should remove something or what I have to do to get these bolts loose. If you could help that’d be much appreciated. Even better directions to look for the solution because I look it up and I see videos like this one. Not a bad thing but it’s not what I’m working on😂

Is it possible to not get the arm on fuel pump in the right position.....maby the arm not on the lobe ? The reasion why I ask is because on my 77 f150 4×4 ranger I can't easily reach from under , I had to remove the power steering pump to get fuel pump out ,and I could only get it out from the top it will be a real bitch to put the new one in
@SteveAZ711 Жыл бұрын
The arm rides on the cam lobe and that gives it a pumping motion. Sometimes the lobe will be in the position that holds pressure against the fuel pump arm. This makes it a bit of a test of strength by holding the pump and trying to get a bolt started. However, you will know that the pump arm is on the cam lobe. I think you can miss the cam lobe and I believe I did just that once. So, make sure that you install it properly...work it some ( the pump arm) just to get the feel of it against the cam. Also the cam lobe may be on the low side and there may be little pressure against the pump arm and you will not feel very much. Hope this helps!

Hi, i have a 76 f250 and I hear that buzz sound for a sec then it turns off and the truck will not start. Does that mean the fuel pump is bad? Thank you
@SteveAZ7112 жыл бұрын
Christian the 1976 came with a mechanical fuel pump. If you are hearing a buzz then someone may have replaced it with an electric. It could be bad or it may be electrical issues.
