An iconic drum corps. Innovative and bold. These guys could flat out Blow the house down! They put together a complete package, as evident here. If you want to relive glory, you probably could start here. Scouts.

I really like this style of Color Guard Presentation. No flanboyant BS, just Militaryesk precision. There should be a Military Style added ot DCI or just a Drum Corps organizaion that has this type of Drumcorps.

haha, not a chance, have you seen this activity in the last ten years.......there is no such thing as a uniform anymore, just costumes that depict show characters......im just very thankful i lived to be entertained by these monster acoustic sound machines that looked classy and were ballsy as fuck.

arf shesaid I mean you never know with the scouts their uniforms last season was as traditional as you could get so they can definitely pull it off, plus 2017,2018, and 2019 are the only years Madison made drastic changes to their traditional uniforms unlike other corps who haven’t worn anything remotely close to their traditional uniforms in a long time, BD And Scouts seem to be the only ones still keeping key parts of their uniforms, like headwear and jackets. It is sad especially since over 50% of the reason I got involved in drum corps is because of the iconic uniforms you couldn’t find in high school or college marching band. I just grew up with a different kind of drum corps that’s I like DCA better sometimes at least their still traditional.

Gotta love that high step that poor tenor player with those awkward drums at that strange angle and then the marching timpanis you had to have back in those days😂

6:58 the video folks sure were oblivious to what performer was actually making the sound being heard, seems dimwitted... one of my favorite drum solos, very cool feel!

A great vision of Madison back when they had an identity, leadership, and direction. Its so sad to see what has become of them today. Now that they are woke, its lights out, and farewell.

Way too much camera emphasis on the rifle line. They're good, but you missed the formation and company front push in Officer Krupke.

Trumpet Videos yeah, how about we get rid of props to, at least at the high school level they give way to big of advantage to rich schools. Also visuals are the color guards job not the band.

I liked this period as well. But, things change. Some old timers would argue that anything before 2 valve bugles was “real drum and bugle.” This was an exciting time and I remember it well as a fan. The closest we can get to this today is the Marine Drum and Bugle Corps.

Heck, I marched in the late 70s, but if the activity was still doing stuff the way they did it in the 60s and early 70s I never would have joined up. Straight lines and left entrance and right exits, 4 man pinwheels, military style with a stirring rendition of “When Johnny Comes Marching Home“ just held no appeal for me.

@@StephenKershaw1 well good for you smart-ass that's your opinion, actually the public would love to have real drum and bugle Corps is back not a marching band, and no respect to the American flag most contest major contest would have 40 to 60000 people in attendance. DC eyes contest for the world championship barely have 21000. Maybe my writing isn't good but I have a reason for it I'm visually impaired I have to rely on voice recognition so I really can't see what's going on. So before you make a comment like yours you should think about what you're saying

So this was the first year of Madison 2-valve bugles I guess. 92 was the last year with me and another contra.

Micah Lall-Trail not under the rules of the day. The two valve bugles had of course both valves arranged upright, making them look more like traditional band instruments as opposed to the way back in the day original drum corps bugles which, of course, had no valves. Eventually, one valve arranged horizontally was allowed, but originally at least, it was required to be locked in place. Songs requiring these notes would require some members to play, and then others, to achieve whatever the arrangement required, almost like bass drum lines. The rotor was allowed as a way to still keep it looking like an old valveless bugle, thus appeasing the old-timers and yielding an instrument closer to fully chromatic. Eventually, the corps figured out that valved bugles would be less expensive, thus the advent of the “two valve” bugle, as opposed to the rotor piston variety.

This was first year of the 2 valve sopranos only....everything thing else was valve/router....1978 was the year that the full corps could be 2 valve. The main reason was cost and availability...most companies had not made them yet!! Crazy
@Mark-sj3xb
@Mark-sj3xb 4 жыл бұрын
Greg, Baritone 2 pistons were introduced in 78. French horns, mellos, and contras were still rotor/piston.

It was a thrill getting the new 2 vertical valve Soprano at camp. So new the corps had not had time to paint Madison Scouts on the cases. I was already flying high coming from a tiny little corps to Madison. Getting that new Sop was over the top. The Enforcer '77 and '78 MSARP and Macy's and soon to be Mardi Gras with the alumni -- what an impact on my life.
