This brings back memories...My dad and uncle used to flip cars like this as they were mechanics...We had a yard with like 6-7 cars in it at all times but they weren't lawn ornaments they were inventory...As kids it was fun..We had some cool cars growing up..The best part was one day my mother would be driving a 65 chevy step-side with stack exhaust and a month later she might be driving a 69 Olds Cutlass, you never knew. Of course, we would come across 3-wheelers 4-wheelers, go-karts, a few Honda Odysseys (remember those factory Honda go-karts), and mini bikes...so for us kids it was an adventure...I remember many times them making a sale and going inside to give my mother money for food and bills...If my dad didn't do well...we didn't do well lol...There was some other stuff my dad and uncles moved around back in the 80s in that lifestyle but I will leave that to your imagination...anyway that's where i got my love for classics...It wasn't always good but they did the best they could...I look back on it fondly

My dad bought a brand new 77' Olds 98..(two door) I took my drivers test in it a couple yrs later... I think the 98's had the 350 engine option but I believe the 305 was standard. Ours had a 350 in it & it was spunky for the day. In 86' I bought it from my dad for pocket change because the engine was shot .. I put another 350 in it & was driving it to work.. My little brother had a turbo'd Ford p.o.s. and the motor blew in it , so I gave him my 98 . I wish I had one today in good shape. I loved that car .

Back in the mid 80s, I lived for free flipping cars with credit card cash advances. I was single, young and developed perfect credit with the credit card companies money. I don't know if the credit card companies do this anymore. But back then I'd get a $2,000 cash advance, buy a cheap muscle car for around $500 to $800. Tune it, shine it and flip it. Pay off the cash advance and pocket the profit and do it again and again for years. When you paid off the cash advance within 30 days there was no interest and your credit shot waaaay up. It was a win, win and tons of fun.

I just bought $50-$300 cars in the late 90s to the late 2000s - some of them lasted for years. When I brought them to the junkyard, I'd pull the battery, cat, transmission, engine and just buy another one like it and swap anything it needed. I'd still get some cash for the shell, or junkyard credit, which I used to get parts friends needed and sold those at a disounted price to them. Decades later I have a bunch of 5 spds and 4G32/33 motors in a shed ;) Pulled one out recently for a swap too!

If you called around you would probably find that if you paid such a loan off in 30 days, it wouldn't cost you anything. Otherwise, the loan would likely be renewed/extended for a few weeks and you'd pay the interest on it. The gentlemen flipping cars with a cash advance and paying it off right away made it would work for him. Excellent!

I was a lot porter at an Olds/Pontiac dealer in the late 70s and this car brought back a ton of memories. Olds ruled the road at the time, with the Cutlass being the best selling car for several years. The 88/98 was a great riding car; you could even get a console shift and buckets in the 88 Holiday coupe.😎🍺

Pretty cool old boat, man! I might just replace the roof panel and floor sections and run the dang thing! The roof wouldn't have to be perfect, since I would cover it with a new vinyl top. Then there's the interior. Seat covers, a carpet kit, some good used door panels, and fabricobble a headliner, and you're set! Anyway, I hope Monty has plans similar to those. I think that old ride is solid enough to throw some money at! Take care, Chris! From SoCal Chris....and I was born and raised in SouthWestern PA, so another Penna boy here!

I live in and grew up in NJ. I remember when cars like this Oldsmobile we’re coming on the streets even during the 1980s when I was growing up. By the way, that car is about as old as I am seeing as I was born in 1977. I grew up in a town called Stewartsville in Warren County, and later later moved to Sparta in Sussex county, and now reside in Rockaway, New Jersey, which is in Morris County. It’s nice to know that some old cars like this an old junkyards with cars from the 1940s all the way up to the 1980s still exist in the state.

Saw one come of the transport with a 262 V8 that motor was stronger than the 305 who knew. Sadly most of them ended up as dirt track cars.

It has an Olds engine, either the 350 or 403 versions. The 307 Olds was not introduced yet. The vertical oil filler neck design confirms it is an Olds engine, not any 305 or 350 Chevy or 350 Buick engine that various GM cars were using.

So that should tell you I grew up about a half hour from Oldsmobile headquarters in Lansing Michigan. Why you didn't fix that up for Jen is beyond me. At my age I really appreciate a smooth comfortable ride. The kind you can't get in an suv or truck. Olds 98? You can't find that kind of luxury any more.

This car made me think of my teens. Starting when I was 16 till 19 I used to buy crapper cars (this was the mid '80's) at the beginning of the summer, take a sawzall to it so that I could have a convertible. A couple Ford Falcons, a Mercury Cougar, a Pontiac LeMans. They could be had for a couple hundred bucks. I'd drive it all summer and then sell it to the scrap yard for $50. A car in this condition would have been a great candidate - rusted out body but mechanically decent. Those were good times.

Love that lady, and her common sense. To many cats for me though. I would flip it.

Great video w/ you and the Gus-Man! Looked like a good "flip"; I'm glad it had the 350 gasser, as IIRC 1977 was the first year of the (in)famous Olds 350 diesel!

in 1977, Olds used to have a THM400, in 1977 they went to the THM350.

The best thing to do would be to find a good donor roller to cut the top and swap it onto this one or to swap over the engine and transmission into the roller cause she runs really well !

1980, 98's had a 301, (305 in California), because the 301 didn't meet California emissions.

Chris , I'm with you on the " quick nickel over the slow dime " . Doubling my money will always be better than getting stuck with something that won't move at any price , and that Olds was getting cheaper by the minute . Nice video . I just KNOW there was some heat at the of business , lol . Delaware-valley/Tri-state style ! Haha .

Actually, welding in a replacement roof panel would be easier than re-framing a car of that vintage. The problem would be to find a donor car, which would be pretty hard to come by. It's a Buick/Olds only roof that has that C-pillar. Possibly one of the Cadillac models, but I'm not sure.

Dude I had one of these back in the day. It was my grandmas. Always wanted another one. Patch the floors and roof and roll out. That thing ran great. He’s got 😊it on 28s now. I would have loved to have had it. But you made a quick buck. Good job.
