Anywhere from a 302 to a 400. But in '78 the majority of LTD IIs with the Sport Package, and Ranchero GTs came with the 351 with a 2 barrel carb. So it's a good guess that's what's in this one.

1st off the cats would have to go. Remove the smog control. Get rid of the motorcraft carb and replace it with a bigger holly 4bbl

Depending on the state you may have to leave them on but personally I would hollow them out.

Looks like the car was kept in as original condition as possible, right down to the wheels. That will add to the overall value of the vehicle.
