What’s really weird, is that even though the music is clearly rooted in the style of 1978 (disco/funk), the fashions here seem to foreshadow everything that was to come in the 80s. It’s like the 80s created it’s entire identity based on the fashions in this video, lol.

I love this song . David Bowie and Carlos Alomar ( the black guy standing behind and off to the left of Bowie in this performance ) are the rare artists in rock and pop music who got better as they aged . In the 90s into the 2000s imho Bowie helped create better live musical arrangements for this song and Bowie's singing range became larger and with more variety of vocalizations . Alomar while being basically a rhythm guitarist at this time, but also brought funk and various rhythms to Bowie's repertoire ( Fame 1975 is one of the notable songs Alomar helped create the basic musical part of ) Today Alomar in his 60s has also become a superb virtuoso guitarist . However you will seldom see him perform because he has been a professor in the music department of a major university ( sorry forgot the name ) for at least the past 15 or so years .

This is not concert footage from the Isolar tour, its from German TV filmed after the completion of the album Heroes and before Lodger. How this track never made it on to "Stage" is beyond me, its superb. Brian Eno is on piano in this video and it was Eno who got Belew involved with the Talking Heads AFTER all this took place, so there is no Talking Heads influence in this performance, although there may well be some Zappa influence, but either way this is one brilliant band and brilliant rendition of a brilliant song.
