Ben, the next time you work on a column, go over how the key-in-ignition buzzer works. I think I forgot to put a small piece back in when I replaced my wheel and the buzzer doesnt work. Thanks!
@TheCorvetteBen
@TheCorvetteBen 6 жыл бұрын
Those changed throughout the years. What year do you have? in this 79 at least the buzzer is a little electronic box by the fuse panel.
@SuperSportSS
@SuperSportSS 6 жыл бұрын
I have an 85 Camaro, so the column should be the same and although its not a "buzzer", its more of a flute sound. I still hear the sound when I have the headlights on and the key off but not with key in.

cant wait for the gymkata, when a firebird had that setup with the last of the 400's in 79 it was a force to be reckoned with, should be interesting to see what the chevolet version is like as out of all the 350 corvettes, the L82 seems to be the one with the most promise outside of the 4th gen models, and the best you can get out of the 3rd generation, outside of the 454 convertible that Zora Antov Duntov took with him as his retirement present in 1974 that is plus the 327, the decendant of the V8 that made the corvette what it was, was a 68 only option sadly, despite that being what engine builder Bizzarini, the guy who made ferrari what it was, the chosen engine to go behind his supercars as an F you to him. as even to this day theirs still people who would take a 327 over a 383 stroker or a 396, and say they perform just as well as those without any of the problems that come with those non hydralic cammed engines. hell I wonder if theirs any cheap way to get a 327 really, like some cheap ass 61 chevy truck everyones forgotten about or something and stuff it into one of these inexpensive vette's then stick on a big block suspension and make a home made ZR1

I like your work and the videos are great. on this one I have one criticism, the "wood wheel" is... well...inappropriate. rewrap the original wheel in gray leather. The wood is jarring
@TheCorvetteBen
@TheCorvetteBen 6 жыл бұрын
It's all about opinion. The wood wheel is easily replaced by the next owner. That wheel came with the car as an extra

Ben, this is way totally off subject re:this Vette. I wanted to sudjest a project for you . I just finished the video on the 76 LTD wagon one of the videos had a 64 buick skylark in it. I was thinking that maybe you could find a car like that and do some resto work on one. Just a thought. Yes,the faux wood steering wheel looks good.

Have you come across rusted floor pan issues? Do you have a video on R&R floor pans or procedures on cutting and welding them? Not sure where to look. One guy from you tube did a show & tell. Workmanship sloppy, no explanation. Not sure I'd want to know from him. How much would something like that go for in a body shop? From Texas, too.

Love the vids Ben, keep up he good work. Also I have a question about my vette. It’s an 85 4+3 car and I just got it running after 12 years, but the freeze plug behind the flywheel is leaking, what do you think is the best way to get to it? Thought about pulling the engine just to be done with it and addressing some other issues...
@paulkirkland1535
@paulkirkland1535 6 жыл бұрын
Brock Delaney:. Yes, you can pull the engine out, however it would be much easier to remove the transmission and clutch. Then you need to remove the flywheel and you'll get access to removal and installation of the freeze plugs. Use Lock tight thread fastener when you put the bolts into the flywheel and torque them to 60-70 ft/lbs.
@TheCorvetteBen
@TheCorvetteBen 6 жыл бұрын
I agree with Paul, Take the trans out, it will take much less time, and you can access the freeze plugs from there.

Hey Ben I have a 76 Corvette that I want to change the steering wheel in. I hate the Vega wheel. Mine is beat to heck by previous owners. I am having troubles finding the parts to change it. The kits that are being sold that manufacturer only makes a few a year. Any ideas? I'd put another Vega wheel back in if I could find a nice black one. I have the tilt and telescopic wheel. I have to change the turning signal switch so this would be a perfect time to do it. Any suggestions?

All you need is a steering column hub and bell hub cover from a 1969-1975 Column (they are like an inch longer, a 69-75 steering wheel and horn button. Other than that they will all bolt together the same. I have a hub and wheel I can sell you to get you started.
