Nice job with the dock. I was thinking about getting an inverter like that one also. Just enough power to run some tools when you need them and then later on at five o’clock,enough power to run the blender for the margaritas!

My favorite channel on KZbin. Since you are going through all the trouble of tearing down the 55 I would seriously consider just bringing it to a local weld shop that specializes in aluminum welding and have the crack welded properly. They should have dye penetrate (PT) testing supplies in the shop, this will show exactly where the crack starts and stops without a doubt.

Last night i posted a comment about my 1979 25hp spark issue. Im not sure which video it was on , i thought it was this video comment section. Having a hard time locating the video. However, as i am trying to diagnose the spark issue, im having a hard time finding good videos on how to test powerpacks and coils using a multimeter. That would make an excellent video. Cheers and keep up the videos!
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 3 жыл бұрын
Hey. Yes I remember you commenting and it was this video. It was under Bandit's comment. You must have freaked out when the motor was trying to start itself. Anyway I wouldn't be able to do a video without a motor and that wont be until I get the 55 back together. I'll tell what I tell everybody and that is, in my opinion testing coils is a waste of time, they may test fine but will start breaking down after they warm up leading you to believe you have a fuel issue or something else because the coil tested good. And thats from experience. And as far as I know, even though there are a few videos, you've probably already watched them by now, there is no test for a powerpack. It either works or it don't. There is a troubleshooting section on CDI electronics website that takes you through the procedures, but it's best to have an OMC manual specific to your model. You might find a good used one on ebay. Anyway, have you checked the basic stuff yet. No Spark situation start at the Kill switch, Neutral safety switch and possible bad ground at the pack/or? Keep your fingers crossed, it's probably something simple like what I mentioned if it wasn't showing any signs of something failing. Curious to know what you find out. Thanks again & Stay tuned !

The motor looks to be in great shape other than the crack. You might consider taking the block somewhere and having the crack welded up by someone that's good at repairing aluminum probably less than 50 bucks and give you piece of mind. If your going to use the jb weld I would consider getting the regular formula that fast curing jb weld you have probably won't do as good a job. Great Video!!!

Hey. Thanks for tuning in. I have considered it. It's not completely off the table yet. But, I'm not convinced its been the problem or a problem. I had a 25hp that had fallen over and got a similar hairline crack but on the opposite side, it wept the same way but had no affect on how it ran. It would be peace of mind for sure to have it welded, but its in a spot that's easy to keep an eye on. That JB Weld, marine weld I got is not the one I saw online. It dries white in color. The one I thought I was getting dries to a gray color and is more specific to this type of application. It has a tensile strength of 5020 PSI and can withstand temperatures up to 550 degrees Fahrenheit. The stuff I got is not even half the strength. It's really more of an adhesive, so I'll be taking it back. Thanks again & Stay tuned ! You never know what's gonna happen next !

While you have it apart you can check for cracks with die penatrant and a blacklight. We used it at Boeing to help find cracks. If not on this one maybe on a future project. Sealing up the exterior crack with the aircraft bond is worth a shot. Make sure it's really clean and it should bond. The case is aluminum like aircraft. If you had aluminum welder that would work too. Haha$$$$ I'll use my Alumiweld sticks. They are cheaper👍

Got a question regarding a Johnson 9.5 seahorse. Hopefully you'll be able to shed some light on my situation, and help me get my motor running without this issue again. Got this Johnson 9.5 Seahorse that is leaking water from the upper unit down the exhaust shroud. Any idea what can be the issue? Thank you in advance, and will greatly appreciate your assistance. Thanks and have a great one!👌
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 3 жыл бұрын
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. I would strip it down and find out where its coming from. I have a few videos with the 9.5's I've had. I had to strip one down for some reason. It's not a tutorial on "how to" strip one down but it might help. Sounds like it could be the power head gasket and hopefully not some kind of crack somewhere. Those 9.5's are notorious for a leaking exhaust housing seal, if is bad, exhaust fumes will leak and choke out the motor, it will not run with the hood on. You may want to check/replace it while its striped down. Curious to know what you find out. Thanks again & Stay tuned !

Quick question, my 1995 Johnson 60 is in great condition and everything seems to work fine, but I am not getting any spark. What could be the issue?
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 3 жыл бұрын
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. That's the same thing that happened to me on my 92 60hp Johnson. I luv that outboard. I had a gut feeling from the getgo is was the powerpack, but rather than throw money at it I picked up a cheap manual on ebay. I went through all the procedures testing the ignition components and I had never done that before, you know, putting a meter on everything, big pain in the azz for my first time. But I'm glad I did it and my hunch was right, it was the powerpack. So on a no spark situation, all cylinders, it could be the stator, powerpack, timer base and even the rectifier can cause it. So, you can guess and start replacing parts or get an omc manual specific to your model and test everything. Those stators aren't cheap! So however you decide to handle it I would recommend ebay for parts, new and used! Curious to know what you find out. Thanks again and Stay tuned !

@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 Good insight, i have a 1979 25hp Evinrude. Awesome motor. Was running like a top, and then BAM next weekend went to take er out and wont start! This is where it gets good. Happen to stumble outside after dark and i hear my motor trying to crank on its own. Thought a scumbag had made his way into the yard. Turns out from what i can tell, ignition switch was shorting from being wet? Strangest thing i have ever witnessed. Anyways today threw a new powerpack on er and still no spark. However i did see it spark once or twice but cant get it to spark again. Just spent 80$ on the sierra powerpack and im stuck in the mud now. Although as you mentioned it could be under the flywheel on the stator. Before i go to this extreme, could you make a video showing how to check to see if a powerpack is actually good using a multimeter and perhaps coils aswell. Cheers! Love the videos!
