13,701 actual miles. Excellent original survivor. Owned by a farmer that put only a couple miles on it at a time. He eventually went into an assisted living home and sold the car to someone else living in assisted living. Needless to say he didn't drive it much either.
EXTERIOR: It's as long as a football field and you can look down both sides and there is not a dent, damage or rust. The Dove Gray paint is believed to be all original and it shows really well, especially for a survivor car. Of course if you look for flaws there are some minor ones. The factory white pinstripe is not polished off. The Valino padded top is very nice but pulled away slightly from the rear trim. Overall the chrome and trim is straight and shiny. The Michelin tires were replaced. The jambs are clean, weatherstrips are still soft. Exterior features include the opera windows, hideaway lights with auto dimmer, outside thermometer, intermittent wipers, illuminated entry, heated mirror and premium side moldings.
INTERIOR: A living room on wheels! Big poofy leather upholstery is very comfortable. Every thing is in excellent shape. The leather, door panels and carpet look great. All the trim, bezels, knobs, vents are excellent. The headliner and visors are excellent. Features include lighted vanity mirrors, full power accessories including driver and passenger seats, tilt wheel, FM stereo, defroster group, light group and more. The owner's manual is in the glovebox.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: The motor is a smooth running 400. It looks just like it did at the factory. It still has 1979 dated sparkplug wires. The stickers and factory markings are still showing. The duct work all still attached to the air cleaner assembly. The smog equipment is hooked up. It has power steering, power brakes and air conditioning.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Giant trunk opens with the power trunk release. It has the wall to wall gray carpet liner in excellent shape. The spare tire has never been used. The jack assembly is still in place. The trunk light works. There are still ink stamps from the factory.
UNDERSIDE: Very well preserved original under this car. The exhaust has twin catalytic converters, new muffler and tail pipe. The chassis components look to be proper and mostly original. Looking up at the motor it's clean, fuel pump and lower radiator hose have been replaced. It has a C-6 heavy duty automatic transmission. It has disc brakes in front.
This is the last of the Lincoln land yachts. They will never make cars like this again. Here is a chance to own one of the most original survivors left.

I own a 1979 Lincoln Continental Collectors Series 400cid 6.6. I live in the Netherlands, and to fill up the tank fully I do pay 2,14 EURO per liter gasoline, so a full filled up tank cost me 209 Euro that is about 243 dollar.!!!!! We have no gallons here only amount in Liter. But I love the car it is all about comfort, drives well, roomy. The last of the mastodonts!

It’s a beauty but it’s odd how the steering wheel is so warn considering the low mileage and the ash trays, front and back, have really been used. Maybe the family just sat in the car with the AC running while enjoying some chew and Pall Malls. lol. I didn’t have the sound on so sorry if he talked about this.

Government fuel and emission regulations killed the great American land yachts. Lincoln was the last of the big three to resist downsizing and 1979 was the last year for these full sized luxo-barges. The only real upside to the move towards electric cars is that it could make a lot of the regulations that have limited sedan size obsolete.

Those are beautiful cars! My late father used to have a 1977 Continental Town Car, dark blue with slightly longer wheelbase, something like 19'' inches longer than standard. It used to work for US White House so great history as well and I loved that car. Perfect for long trips! Sadly my father sold it to Sweden, would be nice to know how is that Lincoln doing nowadays.

I wonder how fast/slow this big Lincoln is with only a 2bbl 400 under the hood? One of the first cars I ever drove was a 1976 Ford Country Squire that had the 400 engine. Power wise it wasn't too bad but this Lincoln must weigh at least 500 lbs. more. For me real luxury demands ample power which is something this Lincoln probably lacks. Otherwise it's a beautiful car.

Not sure of the horse power. The 400ci/2bbl engine had 1970s anti-pollution controls on it. I'm going to guess around 180hp. I worked at a auto repair/tire shop called TALLEYS in New Caney, Texas in 1979. The owners bought a full size F150 and the Lincoln Continental. Just like the one in the video. Because it was Ford's last year to build such vehicles. Both vehicles were pretty impressive. The F150 had the 460 in it. The Lincoln could get out of its way pretty good for such a land yacht. It was fun to pump $1.00 gallon gas in it. I use to joke with my Boss's Wife, "can you shut the engine off so the gas pump can catch up." Those were the days.
@lindycorgey2743
@lindycorgey2743 2 жыл бұрын
I looked it up. The 400 made 159hp in 1979. Less then I thought. If it had any get up and go. It had to be all gearing.

@@lindycorgey2743 That's really a poor HP number for a 400 CI engine. I think my 1976 400 was rated at 180 HP, can't remember the TQ though.
