In addition, the field itself was a mess. Both two game sets in Baltimore in that World Series (Games 1-2 and 6-7) came on the heels of Colts games (you can see the yard line numbers on the outfield grass), and the condition of the field was pretty abysmal. That not only came home to roost in this game on Dave Parker's run-scoring single, but the following night, Bill Robinson hit a ball in the sixth inning that took a bad hop on Kiko Garcia just before Stargell's HR, which provided the ultimate margin of victory for the Pirates. In addition, there was also bad weather before the World Series even started, resulting in a postponement of the first game. Put that all together, and the field was in dreadful shape.

i'm so sick of the commentators covering for Palmer. He got his ass tatooed by the Pirate hitters in both appearances in this world series, period! He should not have blamed his teammates for his poor performance. Let's not forget the Pirates cleaned his clock in '71 series too.
