Today's episode is part of a mini-series of interviews done in the context of the topics of my new book, That Little Voice in Your Head, available now: mogawdat.com/littlevoice
This week, I speak with my good friend Owen O'Kane for a second time on Slo Mo. (Check out episode 120 for our first chat if you missed it). Owen is a psychotherapist and author of Ten Times Happier and the globally acclaimed and Sunday Times bestselling book, Ten to Zen..
His latest book, How to Be Your Own Therapist, is out on June 23rd.
Owen has over 25 years’ experience in physical and mental health and is a former NHS Mental Health Clinical Lead. He now runs a successful private practice in London.
Listen as we discuss:
- The healing power and intuition of dogs.
- Combating the stigma and hurdles of getting therapy.
- Owen's new book, How to Be Your Own Therapist, and writing himself out of a job.
- Getting attached to the familiarity of your own issues.
- Learning to attribute our problems to how we approach life, not on external factors.
- The importance of understanding your story.
- Owen's shame as a young gay man was his brain feeding him inaccurate information.
- The pressure to be happy all the time when you're a "happiness teacher."
- All you need to do is be truthful.
- PPSD, or post-pandemic stress order.
- What's one thing you can do immediately to make life happier?

Thank you both ❤ Resonates with me. Went to Belfast from Canada 🇨🇦 last year. Cannot believe the walls still up. Most people don't really want to hear your answer to how are you. I resond with, good, bad and indifferent 😊

I found this podcast so interesting. The advice Owen gave was so useful. The thing he said about we treat ourselves worse that we do others. Isn't that so though provoking. Thank you Mo another brilliant podcast 👏 🙏

Feeling bad? Just talk to yourself lovingly and tenderly " I love you. I will take care of you. I am sorry that I made you feel bad. I won't do that again. I love you very much. Now, relax and let's be peaceful.". Your feeling will change toward peace and happy mode. God created us to heal ourselves.
