Saimmie Winder and Reggie Collier, what else is needed.

Why does Sammy Winder look like he had speed at S Miss, But with the broncos, he looked like he was running in mud [Pun Intended]?

DON'T FORGET TO SHOW HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE NEXT TWO YEARS. 1981 A 13-13 TIE & 1982 WHEN REGGIE COLLIER LED THE GOLDEN EAGLES TO A 38-29 VICTORY OVER THE CRIMSON TIDE AT BRYANT-DENNY STADIUM!!!!!!! BTW USM'S HELMETS BACK THEN WERE DEFINITELY BADASS!!!!!

Sad to say, those games were not broadcast in my area. IF THEY HAD BEEN I WOULD HAVE RECORDED THEM!!! I sympathize as there was some spectacular football played back then. *Sigh*

Don't forget to post all the other games in the series which Alabama absolutely dominated. Bama's helmets are the best in college football history.

HELLO EVERYONE -- Deb Henson Posted twice below and I want to disagree slightly. Southern Miss has had some very good teams, they just had to scratch and claw their way up the ladder. Collier's career was a bit star-crossed but later there was that Favre guy and others. Bobby Collins found maybe a little too much success at SMU with McIlhenny and the Pony Express. "Anything for an edge" doesn't always work in the end. Alabama had the athletes for certain but the Alabama Wishbone and its Lead Blocker to both sides on the Triple Option was a terror in and of itself. The History of Alabama Football at this time shows this. The Double Tight End I of Southern Miss was supposed to be equivalent to the Double Split End Wishbone. It wasn't. You should, however, be proud of Southern Miss during this time. They were good.

I agree, Southern Miss has had a lot of good teams. During the 70’s, 80’s & early 90’s Southern Miss held their own against many SEC teams and beat Alabama, Auburn, FSU, Auburn, Ole Miss, Miss State. They beat Miss State consistently and, if I’m not mistaken, Ole Miss stopped playing them.
