You should look into the research on the xerox alto, they had GUI ideas in the 1970s more advanced than the 90s and could change the way it ran by rewriting the code of the system WHILE IT WAS STILL RUNNING

Performs computing tasks? Check? Does pretty much everything a desktop computer does for 95% of the users? Check. We never really got anything like those scam software adverts in the UK that I remember as our advertising rules have tended to be pretty strict generally. Actually most of the advertisement featured would never have been shown over here as they simply wouldn't have worked in many cases. The Steve ballmer one is bonkers though!

The Palm Pre was awesome. It had arguably the best UI at the time. Definitely better than Android, and intuitive gestures that Apple didn’t start implementing until the iPhone X. I loved that thing

In the 80’s and 90’s we use to program the hand held cell phones to work for free. We’d sell them $2000 a pop and charged $500 everytime they needed to be reprogrammed which was just putting in a code and changing the phone number by one digit. Easy money

We had a mac plus at home a few times a year (for a few weeks at a time) for a decade, transported in the carrying case (which I'm sure was larger than the one shown in the video) after putting the yellow rigid plastic fake floppy disk into the drive to protect it.

Back in the early 90s, I traveled (by car) all over the Eastern US with my Mac Classic in a case just like this (and an ImageWriter II, to boo) in my van. I lived for months at a time out of my van and hotels with my Mac. People did it. They really did. Oh, and then I got a Newton MessagePad, and was able to leave my Mac at home. :-)
