It is sad to class DEVO as a one hit wonder. They were highly influential to many bands. They are my favourite alltime band and when they came to Australia 18months ago I saw them in Sydney a they still go hard live. Their first album produced by Brian Eno Are we not men is a absolute classic came out in 1978 followed by 1979 release Duty now for the future another banger

@glennrandall7468 True Glenn but there have been bands that have influenced others who never had any hits 🤗

This is a lot of fun to watch! I love the cowboy look, and I was interested to watch him cracking the whip (something I can actually do, I used to be pretty good at cracking a stock whip!)

@kimr3729 It is a fun one...just silly fun. What were you getting up to, Kim that you got so good with a whip 🤪🤣💗

@@playitagainsue - I used to be a "Jillaroo" which is a girl cowboy I guess.. I learned to use a stock whip, and I could crack it whilst galloping my horse, chasing cows!

A friend did a mash-up of Devo's "Whip It" and Willa Smith's "I Whip My Hair" for a drag show.

@playitagainsue it was especially when her wig flew off and his hair had been corn-rowed underneath. My friend has straw blond hair. He won as well.

Love Devo ! .. I have their first 4 albums, and there's many top songs on them which got lots of play on alternative radio and some late night music TV shows .. But "Whip It" was the song that got them well earned wider exposure and their biggest chart success for a single .. In Australia, they had another sizeable hit ( No.14 ) with "Beautiful World" in 1981 .. Great band.👍

@wayne_twentyfive I don't know "beautiful world". I will have to check that one out. They were a super cool band and didn't take themselves too seriously which I liked. Thanks a bunch, Wayne 🥰💕

@@playitagainsue "Beautiful World" is a song where the Official Video really helps bring out its full meaning .. It becomes more clear as the song progresses, and is actually quite a serious, thoughtful piece .. I think you'll enjoy it, Sue .. Bye for now !

Fun song for sure. Can't say I was a fan of the song but it does lighten the mood.

Super fun song and happy it was a hit Im a big fan of Devo They were Surrealists / Satirists and incredibly talented and committed to their Art. I know exactly the first time i saw Devo . OGWT between the live opening and closing would show videos and I remember when they aired Devo’s cover of I cant get no satisfaction I was an instant fan Devo stand for De-evolution My favorite song is Jocko Homo ( they felt were , mankind were regressing ) One last this I raised my kids to Mark Mothersbaugh music as he did the music for Rugrats Between Mark and Danny Elfman kids of eighties were set up nicely to not stay in 4/4 time and explore other options
