I mentioned in the video that I would speak with the owner about a nib replacement. He has agreed and I've ordered a new "fine" nib replacement. When it gets here, I'll do a new video showing the old nib / new nib comparison.
@MateuMatheu4 жыл бұрын
I believe that if the unit replacement has a 14c-585 nib inside then it's no more an M200 but an M250. You have the Adamic power of changing the name :)
@InkquiringMinds4 жыл бұрын
It is a gold plated steel nib replacement, Mateu. So, it stays an M200 I think.

Love the opening "Dust in the Wind" right? Favorite song from way back. Keep up the good work on those intros!! My hubby plays acoustic guitar and has stopped playing for some reason. So I love to hear your playing.

I have one! My handwriting changed from school style to that of an adult with that pen and the Lamy Safari. Thanks for explaining how to check the age. I wasn't sure if that pen is the one from the 80ies. I have a new one too, but the old one is much smoother.

I bought an M200 over 15 years ago and it has been my daily writer of choice since then. I have ignored all the other fountain pens I owned before I obtained the M200, and some of them were more expensive than the Pelikan. I wear large size gloves, yet I truly appreciate the size of the pen in my pocket and in my hand when it is posted. I carried this pen from my desk to meetings and back for about 10 years and have been completely satisfied with it. I never have experienced the ink starvation issues you showed and it has been a silky-smooth writer. It sounds as though the nib on yours needs adjustment.

That's a terrific story of a pen well fitted and well used. Thanks. Yes the pen nib needs some work, but the owner has decided to replace it. I ordered a new one yesterday.

The more that I watch Pelikan pen reviews the more I am becoming a fan. You just can’t beat Pelikan and Sailor for quality and looks. I am old school I guess. I should have picked up a couple of those beauties before I retired. Thanks for showing this one off.🖊🇨🇦👍

The Pelikan M200 is getting a new nib in the next couple of days. The new on is in Canada and on its way to me.

Douglas Rathbun Sounds good, I hope you get it soon. I want to see the next video on that pen. I haven’t had any luck getting a pen ordered from the U.K. It arrived in Canada almost 2 weeks ago and Canada Post tells me they cannot track registered mail. I have lost faith in CP.

@@richardc6932 Canada Post keeps blaming Canada Customs but it is CP that keeps dropping the ball on this stuff.

Great vid as always. Thanks for the info on Pelikan's perch. I had not discovered that one yet. How about a little Stan Rogers in the intro? Not a Canadian joke......just love his music. "White Squall" is a Great Lakes staple....every GL mariner knows it by heart!!

Thanks, GLC! I'm not that familiar with Stan Rogers, but I'll give a listen.

Nice video! I like learning about the history of pen makers and I also enjoy seeing older pens referbished. I have been so close to buying an M200 or M205 many times, but I prefer cartridge converter pens so I can't justify the cost. For people who enjoy using broad nibs, I can see how a piston filler would be desirable.
@InkquiringMinds4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Kathy. And yes, a piston filler or eyedropper will hold way more ink for those who love a variety of inks. But, for those that want one pen that they can use everyday and only write with blue or black ink, these pens are the ticket!
@2Worlds_and_InBetween4 жыл бұрын
yes, im just a basic black ink user, I use this one with a medium nib and a Reform 1750 piston filla, fine, got as NOS about 20 years back after the Pelikan. best of luck with the pen

Nice one Doug, I have a M150 from the 80's just a tad smaller, but really nice. Pelikans tend to be wet writers, hence the Pelikan inks are on the dry side. I agree the feed needs some work, almost sounds like there is some blockage in a channel that allows air back in. Wonder if it had an IG ink in it because of the bad corrosion? You'll figure it out as always. Keep safe.
@InkquiringMinds4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, pete! Yeah, I was surprised by the dryness of my Pelikan Sapphire ink. The owner of this pen just figured it out for me as he authorized the replacement of the nib with a new one. A new video will appear when it arrives. :)

I have opportunity to try a modern M200 and although is a good looking pen is slightly small to me... It's surprising hiw resilient the pen is after so many time the nib unit and the barrel were being corroded by the ink... About the problem of the nib, yeah it needs some tinkering on the tines alignment 🤔. Nice video Doug, wish you and your loved ones being healthy and safe 🖖.

I usually buy or have bought those you review but I’ll pass this time. I have a Parker 45 vintage but it’s in the retired box as it was just too boring. High qc and I loved the ease of nib cleaning and changing but it was sooooo boring. I look forward to your videos and love the musical interludes. Stay safe.

Hey, Allan. Were you commenting on the Pelikan or the M80? It sounds like you are speaking of the M80. If so, good call. Both of them are already cleaned out of ink. :)
