Lee, thanks for the video of the game. .I grew up in Maryland and was a Maryland fan. That Virginia team was great with Sampson, lamp, jones. This is the glory days of the Acc.

Buck Williams outplayed 8-inch taller Ralph Sampson as usual in those days !! Thanks for uploading the great game.

Ralph is a great person, but never that great a player, compared to the hype.

The Terps had some serious talent . Lefty was seriously underrated coach . I miss those days I would run home from school to watch those early ACC tournament games .

Truth is Lefty was a great recruiter. Average coach. If Gary Williams had these guys Maryland would have some more National Championship Banners.

Awesome! The year Lefty broke out the gold unis, and it terrified UNC SOOOOOOO much they made Maryland where their home whites for the final, even though UNC was considered the home team as the higher seed.

Yeah it terrified the Tar Heels so much that they proceeded to beat the Terps for the third time that season the following night.

@@PowidzMalwa Ummm, no they didnt. was a 1 pt game...and Dean petitioned for UMD NOT be allowed to wear their gold. And he won....he was so afraid. You must be a Democrat, because you have no memory.

Scott no Im not a Democrat Im republican but what does polotics have to do with a hoops game played 40 years ago. And Carolina did beat Maryland the following night after sweeping them in the regular season. Maryland was a great team that year but I feel maybe they were a bit too cocky from winning the ACC regular season title the previous year. Anyway the ACC as a whole was incredibly stacked back then, just overflowing with talent. I miss the hell out of those days.

Still cant get past Maryland moving to the Big 10. They were a better fit in the ACC.

A one point win is still a win Scott. It was two great teams, no slight to you or Maryland intended.

When the announcer says, "Atlantic Coast Conference basketball!" the closed caption on my screen said, *"A planet called conference basketball."* I guess you could say the ACC was a world unto itself in the '80s! 😄
