Larry 'Music' Muzynski said he pulled 10.4G in the dogfight against the SU-22. It was actually a very fast dogfight taking place close to supersonic speeds. When he landed back, they saw the G-meter pegged at 10+ G and the maintainers were so happy about the two SU-22 being shot down, they did not write him up. They celebrated it with 'Music' instead. Nicely done! I was aboard the USS Texas CGN-39. We were part of the USS Nimitz carrier battle group as carrier escort. I was in CIC (combat information center) on GCC1 (gun control console 1) when this incident occurred. The part of the story not mentioned but was hair raising is.. a Russian Kashin Class Destroyer was very near by monitoring our two battle groups. I was zoomed out on that Russian Destroyer and as soon as those SU22 splashed, the missile bays popped and I reported Missiles On The Rail! CPT Andres ran down from the bridge and slammed the keys into the Harpoon missile console. Within seconds it was reported the USS Texas, Arkansas, Pebble and Mississippi all assigned Harpoons to this Destroyer! Being a FTG and in CIC for every and anything.. this really was as close as it gets to a really bad moment in history. Slowly over the next few hours the Kashin wiggle off without incident escalation. Latter on that day I heard that someone Shined the Kashin with missile frequency pretty much as the dog fight was taking place. Thus the response from the Russian Destroyer. This would have been a great tragedy was it not for many many cool heads. The Rest Of The Story! Wonderful work! Thanks so much! FTG1 Tripp USS Texas CGN-39 1980-84 ✌️PT

@@SaadAlHezaey I do not remember that. I do remember that we lost an aircraft on this cruise. I was on duty and was watching flight ops on the Nimitz from GCC2 with my Remote Optical Sight. As I was watching an aircraft suddenly crashed into the water just off the ship only a few feet .. my heart sunk, knowing that everyone on that aircraft is gone. About two seconds later the entire battle group went to General Quarters and conducted the search which resulted in only finding insulation floating on the water around the crash site. I couldn’t remember much about it so I looked it up just now. This is what I found: “November 17, An S-3A, assigned to Anti-Submarine Squadron (VS) 24, crashed into the water just aft of Nimitz, about 70 miles northwest of Sicily. CO Cmdr. Phillip L. Reed, Lt. But as we watch these "triumphal" videos let us not forget the talent and commitment of the Libyan pilots, not evil men, who were defending their country and doing their jobs. @Erik Pantoja Well they would have had to get the Iranian pilots to tell the stories on the show and it would be harder to do that because Iranians are bad....we are told.... but Saudi Arabians are good..we are told. Some stories out of that war say that one AIM- 54 Phoenix missile took out two Iraqi aircraft flying in close formation. Not just once, but several times. One story says they shot the AIM-54 Phoenix at a 4 group and it took out 3 and damaged the 4th. I don't think the missiles we have now have the range and payload of the AIM-54 Phoenix.
