NBC coverage was the best..when it ended in 1989, I was 22. I never adjusted to the other networks covering it except for the ESPN Sunday night games. NBC raised me 😁

Sunshine looked different in 1982. How did that become so long ago, all of a sudden?

Joe Morgan reaches out and slaps the second pitch of the game for a base hit. Today most guys would lay off that pitch and work the count and wait for one that they could hit 450 feet or strikeout.

That's why it's very hard to watch baseball today. It's become nothing more than a glorified home run derby that requires no smarts to play. Yuk.

Apples and Oranges my friend. Also you have arguably the greatest instinctive 2nd Baseman that ever played doing that. If you have all hitters doing it back then you have a great debate.

Lee Elia made some many horrible managerial decisions in this game smh

Love the theme song at the beginning. does anyone know what it is called?

I've been trying to figure out the theme they used from 77-83 also. The fan fare works well real well.

I think its just called "NBC Baseball Theme" it was written by Clark Gault who was their regular sports guy at the time.

Giants looked awesome in those road black and orange jerseys with the white pants back in the day. The current Giants need to bring back these jerseys as road alternates instead of wearing the grey all the time.

@Caitlyn Jenner 1989 road jersey was pretty boring to me but it was a solid look.

@Jack Storm Those Road Jerseys from 1983-1993 were a good look for them.

What a great upload! At a time when so many in media try to stake their claim by regurgitating disdain for the old baseball-isms that were used to explain the game to us, I couldn't help but laugh as Costas and Randolph discussed on-base and slugging percentage, the merits of bases-on-balls drawn over unproductive strikeouts, and how fielding percentage is but an incomplete snapshot of defensive proficiency. My God, and they did it all thirty-seven years ago. Thank you so much for these games, man.
@OliveOyl125904 жыл бұрын
Great point about fielding percentage. The percentage is shewed by how aggressive (chances a defense a club takes) or by how much range fielders have.

32:25 - a bit including mention of Pete Rose "future hall of famer" - .....of course....what could possibly stop the induction of a player already a all-time great in 82?

Bob Costas (PBP) & Jay Randolph (C)

I think they flip flopped half way thru game. This was back in the day when the "backup game" went to just the markets of the main game barring a rain delay, hence that's why Costas had many partners that year. At the start of the next contract, the backup game would go to more of the country and Bob would be situated with Tony Kubek for the rest of that agreement.
