I also want the Expos back. They looked so National League-y. Same with the Phillies and those burgundy uniforms they wore back in the 80s. And the Lite Beer commercials with the gravely-voiced announcer "Lite Beer. Everything you wanted in a beer. And less." I miss those days. There is so much to miss about the past.

I hear ya. I liked the Expos unis from this time period, both home and away versions, and I really liked the Expos' cap. It was really non-traditional. Now, I certainly wouldn't like it if every team wore a cap like that, but somehow it just worked for the Expos. One of these days I'm going to get one.

@topoftheapple81396 жыл бұрын
I think at this point in his career JB's knees were shot and they tried to use him at first and third in an attempt to preserve him. I also think the Reds felt Alex Trevino had a big future.

Bench played quite a few games at third to give him a rest from catching and still keep his bat in the lineup. Similarly , the Expos would occasionally have Gary Carter at first base like in the second game of a double header.

What a shame Tom Seaver has come down with dementia just as the 50th anniversary of the 1969 Mets is here. He had a great 1981 with the Reds and I am sure he deserved the Cy Young that year, but everyone was enamored with Fernando Valenzuela and his first half hype. Valenzuela famously started 8-0 but was a very pedestrian 5-7 afterward, so I really wonder how and why he got it. Then as good as Seaver was in 1981, he was just as awful in 1982. I thought I read somewhere he was the NL's worst starting pitcher that year of those who pitched 162 innings or more. A lot like Steve Carlton went from a 27-game winner in 1972 to a 20-game loser in 1973. Pitching is so temperamental.

@@daboys1215 oh believe me when it comes to 1970s and 1980s I definitely know who to look for but it seems Steve Rogers definitely comes up the most if you're looking at Expos games randomly. I would most like to see more games from the 1970s with the Expos but those seem to be pretty rare. There are some from 1979 but it would be great to be able to see some games from like 1973 to 1980 since that's when I first started following baseball and the Expos when I was a Youngster. You know pitchers like Steve renko, Mike Torrez, Dan Warthen, and Dale Murray and Chuck Taylor out of the bullpen to name a few. Not great teams from 1973 up until 1978 but much-loved by myself.
