What's forgotten was how good some of those Milwaukee Bucks teams were in the 1980's, they couldn't get over the hump against the likes of the LA Lakers, Boston and yes those Philadelphia 76ers, you had guys like Marques Johnson, Bob Lanier and Sidney Moncrief, this team might have won at least one NBA Title in another era, especially in today's NBA, that's how great the NBA was in the 1980's
@danlivni20975 жыл бұрын
Sidney Moncrief was a great player back then. He was also one of the best defensive players.

Lakers may have dominated the 80s from a championship standpoint, but for my money the '83 Sixers were THE best individual 80s team ever. As soon as they got Moses Malone (who was pretty much the single most dominant force in the NBA at that time), it was over for the rest of the league. Only team I could see challenging them outright in that decade is the '86 Celtics (arguably the most loaded Celtic team in franchise history) and maybe the '87 Lakers. Other than that, they're right on par with the '67 Sixers, the '71 Bucks, the '72 Lakers, and the '96 Bulls.

What about the '89 Pistons? Would they have stand a chance against the '83 Sixers?
@PeekaPeep10 жыл бұрын
Edward Richardson Not sure. Even though that Pistons team ended up winning the championship that year, they did so without having to worry about Magic Johnson and Byron Scott (both succumbed to serious leg injuries due to Pat Riley going overboard with his practices just prior to the Finals, NOT a wise move on his part). Both the '89 Pistons and '83 Sixers were some of the best defensive teams ever, so I guess it comes down to which of those Detroit big men (Laimbeer? Mahorn? Salley? Edwards???) ends up with the daunting task of slowing down a PRIME Moses Malone. That said, I still pick the Sixers. Pistons resort to hacking Malone, he'll just knock 'em down from the line at a 70+% clip. Makes a huge difference in my eyes.

This team has a similar back story to this year's Warriors team. The 76ers had lost the previous year's finals and while they were great, they clearly needed another piece, just like Golden State. Moses was a former MVP leaving his old squad to join the runner-ups from last year, just like KD. Philly stormed thru the playoffs and would get their revenge in dominant fashion with the new guy winning Finals MVP, just like the Warriors. Where they differ is in age.

The 1983 76ers are one of the Top 5-10 teams of all time a great all around team. That probably doesn't get enough respect.

As a Boston fan I can't even begin to tell you how good the 76ers were for a 5 year stretch during the early 80's. Hands down these teams would have won every year had they not had to deal with the great Bos/LA teams. This team would absolutely obliterate this years GSW squad. Utterly insulting the GSW warrior team was even mentioned in the same company as this team as one of the greatest ever. Whoever came up with the ELO ratings can ELO this.....clown. 83' 76ers, 86' Celtics and 87' were all so superior to anything I've seen in decades and that includes SA's best. The Bulls and Pistons best squads could have competed but I still put these 3 teams up there ahead of them. Moses in his prime was one of the most gifted and best C's to ever play. Without a doubt one the best pure rebounders ever.

Those that know already knew who you meant. My fav teams are 83 Sixers and the 88-90 Pistons. The '83 Sixers '86 Celts and '87 Lakers,I'd put against ANY TEAM! GSW are good but if you run them off the trey line,you can beat them but you still have to guard the lane rotate help slide switch etc. These young cats don't understand team D(1 on 1 either at times) D doesn't end until the rebound is secured by the defense or the bucket is made. Look at what Cavs did to GS last year you mentioned some of the greatest teams ever that I like now. In the 80s I hated LA and Boston. People say I'm biased and at times I am I came up and played in a different era. One where you were proud and you wanted to be the best. Now it's all buddy buddy altho we know GS and Cavs hate each other and that's good for the game. LA hated Boston and Philly. Boston hated Philly and LA and Philly hated LA and Boston but there was always respect. When SIxers lost they would go to the Lakers or Celts locker room and shake those guys hands and congratulate;ate them and vice versa,good sportsmanship. Other great teams that would beat GS some are runner ups: 88-90 Pistons, 92,94 Knicks, 94 Rockets,96 Sonics,97,98 Jazz, 00-02 Lakers, 04 Pistons, 05,07 Spurs,'08 Celtics(one of my fav teams) These teams played D

The Best NBA Team assembled !!! The 76'ers were unstoppable. Erving,Malone,Toney,Cheeks,Jones,etc. The team weren't selfish and worked as a team. Earlier,When the 76'ers had George McGuiness they lost because of ego. But this team was the best I ever saw.

The Bucks got there by SWEEPING the Boston Celtics. Every year is covered by these NBA flashbacks except when Boston loses, almost without exception. Try and find this full program (that contains audio) of this playoff program - it's call "That Championship Feeling". No, cause it shows how Boston got swept.
