$110,000 BRUNSWICK MEMORIAL WORLD OPEN
Brunswick Northern Bowl, Glendale Heights, 111., Nov 14-20, 1982
Fehr(Ly) Easy
Steve Fehr, who was in 89th place on the 1982 PBA money standings after the Winter Tour, capped a brilliant comeback by nabbing his second title in four weeks in the season-ending $110,000 Brunswick Memorial World Open.
The $15,000 top prize moved Fehr to 12th on the earnings list as the right-hander defeated Steve Cook from the top-seeded position. Fehr took over the lead for good in the tournament's fourth round and held off a persistent Frank Ellenburg throughout match play.
Local favorite John Forst began the TV finals by edging former World Open winner Gary Dickinson, 221-214. Cook, looking for his third 1982 title, then stopped Forst and ousted Ellenburg to advance into the final match. Cook, however, could not keep pace with a closing six-bagger from Fehr, who was the tour's leading money-winner on the combined Spring, Summer and Fall segments.
