$110,000 BRUNSWICK MEMORIAL WORLD OPEN
Brunswick Northern Bowl, Glendale Heights, 111., Nov 14-20, 1982
Fehr(Ly) Easy
Steve Fehr, who was in 89th place on the 1982 PBA money standings after the Winter Tour, capped a brilliant comeback by nabbing his second title in four weeks in the season-ending $110,000 Brunswick Memorial World Open.
The $15,000 top prize moved Fehr to 12th on the earnings list as the right-hander defeated Steve Cook from the top-seeded position. Fehr took over the lead for good in the tournament's fourth round and held off a persistent Frank Ellenburg throughout match play.
Local favorite John Forst began the TV finals by edging former World Open winner Gary Dickinson, 221-214. Cook, looking for his third 1982 title, then stopped Forst and ousted Ellenburg to advance into the final match. Cook, however, could not keep pace with a closing six-bagger from Fehr, who was the tour's leading money-winner on the combined Spring, Summer and Fall segments.

4 John Forst, La Grange, Ill. 441 (2 games) 5,000

Congratulation to Steve Fehr. He got the break he needed when that 7-pin fell down. But that is the way bowling is. Steve Cook was a great champion. Maybe he did not win because his gorgeous wife was not there. At least the cameras did not show her. Thanks for the video.

Did Mike Durbin get incentive money for wearing the Kinetic Controller device during his bowling tips? The Kinetic Controller was a somewhat popular device on the tour from 1982-83, as players would get incentive money just for wearing it during the TV finals.

Can anyone explain why U.S.A Network bowling has their shots from the sides of the lanes, unlike the A.B.C.show that would give a behind the bowler.I prefer the A.B.C.camera location.

I don't have an answer for that, but looking at a couple of the USA Network telecasts just gives me the feeling that their coverage wasn't...quite polished. ABC did a much better job of keeping things moving -- they did their best to keep the telecast to either side of 90 minutes while USA dragged theirs out for two hours -- and other than Mike Durbin on analysis (when he didn't qualify for the stepladder), there wasn't much continuity on lead man for USA while ABC had Chris Schenkel long secured (Dave Diles filled in only on occasion). Thinking about this, it's only a small surprise that when NBC picked up the fall tour for the 1984 season that USA's days of covering the tour were numbered. NBC paced their coverage closer to the ABC model, and that led to hearing Jay Randolph and Earl Anthony for eight years in the fall events.

The 4-7-9-10 Forst left, I made that last time I bowled..... Odds for a pro 8:1, average bowler maybe 1000:1.
