I work with a bunch of young folks that think the UK in the 80s was all shoulder pads, neon, synthesizers and cocaine. I have to burst their bubble, and explain that to most folks, it looked more like this. Stodgy food, parka jackets, brown formica and chain-smoking. I'm certainly not nostalgic for the 80s, apart from the music and some social aspects it wasn't all that it was cracked up to be, lol.

Yes it's so much better for kids now. Kids are not allowed out to play with their mates (we used to disappear all day, came back home when the street lights went on), constant peer pressure and bullying on social media, finish education with huge debts (most shouldn't be going to university, or it should be free like it used to be), little no no chance of owning their own house, and the joy of climate change and huge political and social unrest to look forward to. You must be deluded if you think things are better today. In the 80s you had a future to look forward to.

yeah right!! You could see how overwhelmed the kids were with all that choice.. I started school in the mid 80s and dinners never looked that good. That was done knowing the BBC was coming!!

My home town, they were good times when this was filmed. I was happy growing up in a village outside Rotherham. I'm still in the village now nearly 60 years later. I don't go into Rotherham anymore I feel unsafe & an outsider. Rotherham is broken full of immigrants, asylum seekers & Roma gypsies. It will never be like it was.

It does i never had a choice like that when i went to infant school back in the early 80s. We did have veggies and some meat pie, fish cakes, mash and beans. We never had hotdogs, pizza or chips as far as i can remember, the sweet was just sponge cake and custard afterwards. I mainly just had fish cakes and beans maybe with some mash, thats all we could afford because we had to pay for dinners back then.

No, this is from before it was on the way back up - Maggies economic reforms took time to have an effect plus Scargill still walked those lands at that time . Now its in decline I agree, but you missed the 20 years inbetween when things were improving.
