We were standing at the fence by the Yamaha box vans, RJ came walking around to the back and sat down wearing nothing but tighty whities. No air con, no showers, no hiding from the crowd. I feel fortunate to have been a fan there from '79 to '15, and to have witnessed the evolution of the sport.

Amazing footage. I'll never forget my first time going to the classic 96 Dilla when I was 9 years old with my dad. And I got McGraths autograph

Wow, what a walk down memory lane. Thanks for posting, great video, excellent quality. Dad took me there in 1970 at 7 years old. Been going ever since. I was lucky to race the 500cc class in 1986.

That's the best way to " groom " a track. Let it go natural all year then run practice on it and let the lines form as they may. Not today's smooth, manicured tracks

Can’t believe today’s venues .They were much better and possessed more character in the golden age. I’m not trying to wax nostalgic or Live in the past. The circuits on the continent and British isles have a deep and storied tradition. They’ve been racing on many of them for over 50 years. They were unique ,one of a kind, classic continental bike breakers.thats why cz,husky and maico reigned supreme in those days. You needed an mi Abram’s to get around those torturous tracks.

Another one for the archives! Pure gold! Glover, Bailey and Johnson riding with the modern style so clearly evident and making everyone else seem almost amateurish.

Your initial publications were fantastic. Now that you’ve reposted them they’re much better. Hard to improve on your content,but you did it…I love watching them and looking over my archived riders lists and ama number assignments for the particular year that corresponds with your submissions. Call me a nerdy geek, guilty, I own it. Thanks for curating this rare race footage from the golden age . Not alot of it exists. I pray you’re monetized..you’re worthy.l

#3 Kees Ven der Ven won that day. Smoked the field in moto 2. KTM took their first major victory.

KTM had already clinched the 250cc world titles with Moiseev in 1974 ("stolen" from Jaroslav Falta in probably the most controversial final race ever), 1977, 1978.

Is 31 LaPort on an air cooled YZ (the year he was W.C.)? Over here in the UK/Europe the '82 production bike was water cooled!

This is great, Lyndon.Thanks for posting. It's great hearing those 2-stroke engines again. And Larry Maiers calling the race, of course 😄I was at that race and probably standing right next to you taking photos at the start of the 250 moto. I'm wondering--this is Super 8, right? How did you do synch sound? Was your camera modified for crystal synch and did you use a separate recorder, something like a Nagra, to record the sound? How did you transfer this film? These new "remasters" look fantastic compared to the older film transfers. Anyway, great job. You must have been pretty tired at the end of that day, you covered a lot of ground!

@fkp-1353 These were shot on a Canon 1014 XLs Canon Super 8 sound camera. There was a sound Super 8 cartridge that recorded sound on a mag stripe on the film 18 frames ahead of the image. My new remasters are done on a Kodak Reels Film Digitizer that shoots single digital frame by frame at 2 fps. 30 min run time takes 4 hours. But that's just the image! I then play the film on a sound projector and record the separate sound, BUT! The run time of the picture and sound don't match, so picture and sound good I to an editing program be, (painfully) carefully synched. It's time consuming, but by the hundreds of comments I've gotten, and the memories these videos have rekindled, worth the effort.

@@lfoxracer Wow--that's a lot of work! But you're right, it's definitely worth it. I'm impressed with the quality of the film transfer from that Kodak digitizer and the sound quality from the Canon 1014 XLs. I'll have to look into getting one of those Kodak digitizers to transfer some old regular 8mm home movies. Thanks for the info!
@lfoxracer3 ай бұрын
@fkp-1353 Check youtube for info, there are several similar brands that do the same thing. The Kodak is harder to find and a bit pricier, but I found one used like new for 299. When u see what transfer services charge, if your computer literate it's a no brainer!
@fkp-13533 ай бұрын
@@lfoxracer Thanks. I'll check around. I have thousands of feet of home movies on S16 and R16 I need to transfer. An economical option would be a lifesaver. I just transferred 800 feet of I6mm shot with an Arri S/B (regular 16) on a Spirit Datacine @1080 (not even 4K!) and it was almost $1100.00.

I was a dealer at Bally’s las vegas and when the tour hit town alot of the racers stayed there. I got to deal roulette to Larry Maiers and we had a nice moto chat. He was surprised a Las Vegas roulette dealer was up to speed on the sport of mx. Never know who you’re talking to.

Why O why aren't tracks like this anymore proper natural terrain ungroomed the way they should be so much more enjoyable and entertaining where you had off Cambers, 4:25 now they groom them flat which just creates one line ruts compare this all natural to today there is no comparison,rider's and spectators are really missing out.
