@@yellowlght9181 It was about 8:00 in the morning. There was a tornado in Montebello, a suburb of Los Angeles just yesterday and it damaged 17 buildings, went close to a school and sucked a teacher out of her high school classroom and rescued by a student, and injured one other person. It has been all over the news with photos online as well. There was a tornado in Carpinteria, near Santa Barbara, yesterday, so they do happen in California more frequently than you might think, but the 1983 tornado was very large. Each year there are an average of 10 small tornadoes in California, some more than others.

@@marcchatow9516 The same day of the 1983 tornado also included a 3.5 earthquake centered in Inglewood. The rain, it is now said by seismologists, if very heavy, is capable of triggering earthquakes and the large earthquakes projected for the region could literally be groundbreaking as well. There has not only been a rain drought, but an earthquake drought in California recently. Well, the rain drought is over currently.

@@jasonburger3533Makes sense depending on the sediment. I have been nervous about this when it's been suddenly pouring rain where we are at in SoCal. Streams formed in the dirt areas. I have been wondering if it could trigger sink holes. Definitely causes cliff collapse.

That's crazy! The winter of 82/83, we had a VERY strong El Nino winter weather pattern, with MANY storms hitting the West, & Southwest. I was living in LA at the time, and it was raining sooo much that winter!! But lately, we've been stuck in a stagnant La Nina weather pattern.

Tornados apparently happen every year in CA. Just light like the F1-F2. I am born and raised (SoCal) and had no idea. Lol 😆 Many of us thought sure sign of end of times. Haha That's what you get when uneducated about it. #public_school What scares me, is if we had larger tornados than the F2....we don't have proper shelters here like most do in other states. We don't even have an alarm system for that here as far as I know. Maybe push notifications...but I know ppl that keep their phones off for a day or two.

@@ari3lz3pp There are no early warning systems for tornadoes in California. The Emergency Alert System, EAS, formerly the Emergency Broadcast System, EBS, would be the way that all regional emergencies in the Los Angeles region should be communicated, traditionally on some AM and FM radio stations and local television stations as well. That preceded smartphones and many do have them off for days at a time; I have been in that category.

I was a 8 yrs old watching Scooby-Doo in the morning with my dad when I hear a wind outside and everything started to shake almost like an earthquake but different. it was more like vibration and then the windows started to vibrbate and all suddenly shattered and the rain started to get inside the house. I noticed some small Japanese cars were rolling over three to four houses away. one of the light post fell on top of my dad's Chevelle but no damaged to the car just a scratch. I used to lived on 41st Street and Broadway. I missed the good old days including the now extinct restaursnt Pup n' Taco and Pioneer Chicken.

@Ruben Rodriguez. There was an earthquake later that same day that measured 3.5 and centered in Inglewood. Scooby-Doo was on KCOP-TV Channel 13 back when there were cartoons in the mornings and afternoons on the independent non-network television stations. There have been many smaller ones in the years since, as California averages 10 tornadoes per year. There was a large tornado there again at the end of September 1983. Both did much damage, caused injuries, but no deaths that I recall. I was not alive in 1966, but was living in an adjacent city in the 1983 tornado and we had very strong winds and heavy rain. Several days later in October 1983, there was a very powerful nocturnal thunderstorm that vibrated the ground. There was a tornado near Disneyland in Anaheim earlier in 1983, part of that 1982-1983 El Nino season. Long Beach had tornadoes, many, touch down on one day in 1982. There was one tornado in Long Beach in 1998. The newspaper headline said "Twist And Spout". That was on the front page of the Long Beach Press-Telegram newspaper in January 1998.
