This takes me back to a fun time being a teenager, I already purchased "Thriller" on December 2, 1982, already wore it out around Christmas 1982 and wore it out some more throughout 1983 & 84. Watched the Motown 25th Anniversary Special with my grandmother, after the MJ performance my cousin called me and scream into my ear. Everyone in school talked about the next day which was a Friday. I also bought the Police album, "Flashdance" soundtrack, Prince's "1999" album Eddy Grant, Culture Club, Thomas Dolby and others. Cable TV arrived at my home around August 1983 and MTV stayed on almost 24/7 with the exception of HBO & Showtime. Then around December 1983, I arrived home from school, turned on MTV & watch the premiere of the video "Thriller" on a Friday. Watch it throughout the weekend and on Monday everyone was talking about it in school. Man those were the best times ever. I feel sorry for kids not experiencing great artists & MTV like we did in the 80's. I miss those days.

Hang with me on this, people. I just turned 40 Oct. 7th and I have ALWAYS been a MJ fan. My hero, he was... is. As a black man, it really makes me feel good to see people loving and showing appreciation for this man. The year, 1983 was a life changer for so many people. I am one of them. The video Thriller stayed playing in my house. That vhs tape played about 30 times a day. I ran the tv. Lol. I grew up watching people love this man to joking and hating him. There wasn't a week that went by that I wasn't fist fighting with dudes defending him. 2005 was the scariest year of my life, but then turned to one of the greatest after he was found NOT GUILTY. 2009 is a year I'll never forget. Fast forward to today... this video brought back memories of a happier time for me and for the first time (since I was 13 years old) I cried like a baby watching this. When it got to the Thriller video, I had to stop the video and walk away from my pc. It finally hit me! He's gone. The happiness, the magic is gone. I finally got myself together to finish this well put together of footage and facts from that year. This video helped me release what I have held in since 2009. Thank you, THE DETAIL. Great video! Much love and loyalty to all the MJ fans.

These videos are great but, they’ll NEVER capture the electricity in the air that Michael exuded!! I remember playing outdoors with cousins, then hearing my Mom yell, “Michael’s Pepsi commercial is on!!” In the house I’d run, only to catch a small scene. I was SO disappointed although, I’d seen the commercial about 80 times before.

Thanks so much. Being a fan from 1984-1996 and then 2018-... there's so much I haven't seen, especially considering I belong to an era where there was no Internet, cell phones and we have to rely on TV, mags and radio shows. To top it, I don't live in the US where every single day there were news about Michael. Those days were a real trial for us fans waiting for Thriller's follow-up, and then Bad's follow-up, and so on. Great, great memories. Really helpful for my fan fic, too. Greetings from Argentina.
@cindysiljackson4 жыл бұрын
@J Crash That's right. Waiting for Bad proved nerve-racking, especially living in a country where little news from him were shown. Americans was very fortunate because all the time they had info about Michael: We Are The World, Captain Eo and whatever he did, though he was quiet reclusive during those years. We had to rely on some lines in newspapers or music mags. And then until the 1993 allegations it was the greatest era ever. Michael was hotter and hotter. I just can't believe what happened and how from mid 1993 things went downhill for our poor Michael. He didn't deserve to suffer that way...

This is a great video!! One of my favourite so far! Really good to see it all summarised like this. I hope you make more for other pivotal years for all the eras. I felt the could have been just slightly faster and full screen images makes it hard to read subtitles.

And just like any "high" or climax I think that's what 1983 was for MJ. "The king on hill can only go down or stay up."

Wow I think this is your best video yet! What an incredible way to lay out Michael Jackson's peak in fame, how he got there and how it impacted the world. You should really do more year-in-review type videos like this one. So informative, insightful, entertaining etc. It would be so cool if you laid out every year of his life lol but I know that's asking too much.
