@@MalikCarr well, I'd probably still take a Fiberglass boat smelling FB RX-7 over it for such things, but definitely a very close second. Tied with the Levin Corolla for me, just because I prefer NA. Turbo's can be a bit, idk, weird, for me. But yeah arguably a really good car for such things too. Though the AE86 beats it in practicality, just barely. I just wish it was available for Assetto Corsa, cause there's no way I can ever afford one in real life. And even if I could afford it I can't register it in my country... Fucking emissions regulations coupled with strict modification laws basically kill any chance of adapting older cars to newer regulations here.

Even if it was a compromise, 170hp out of a 1998cc V6 was still really good for 1983. Basically all you could get from GM was a 3.8L V6 that made 110hp or a 5L V8 that made 160hp. And basically all you could get from ford was a Windsor v8 that might make 175hp. And they all got 17mpg, if you were trying your absolute best to accommodate the rules of inertia.

I have three old 280zx that I've been working on restoring with my dad for over 10 years. Thought I knew a good bit about these older zcars, had no idea about this one! So cool that y'all did such an interesting car. I will definitely be hitting up this guy's website. I hope you are able to get a good 4runner, y'all deserve it. I still remember when y'all had silicon Sally!

I owned a Z31 2+0 with a welded diff and straight piped exhaust when my son was born. I didn't care much for them before owning it. I bought it because my SW20 burned down, and I needed a car fast and I drove to Bellingham, WA from Seattle, WA to buy this at night time, in the rain. I truly grew to appreciate it and sold it when I needed rear seats. I now feel nostalgic about this car. Oh yeah, my dad bought one second hand, when they were still a relatively new car. I don't recollect it but my folk's say they would prop me up in the middle of the transmission hump. (back before they cracked down on seatbelt laws, lol)

Since I haven't seen this comment posted anywhere else (although that doesn't mean anything): It's not actually "Z," despite the fact that even Nissan in America calls it that. That character on the front of the car is "Otsu" (乙), the first character in the word "Otome" (乙女) which means, perhaps unsurprisingly, maiden. So there's your Fairlady.

As much love as the 90s jdm cars get, i wish people gave the 80's jdm a better tonguebath. they are the reason all those cars are so technologically advanced. because they shoved tech into these cars to see what stuck and its so beautiful to see them kept nice when they are. I'll always look to one of these cars before looking at the rest of the crowd. lovely vid btw

There was a big tax bracket jump at exactly 2.0L back then. Also applied to cars over a certain *width* which is why the US "widebody" and JDM Accords were different starting in the late '90s. The trick that made the Z31 work in Japan was when they eventually dropped the RB20DET in it, in the Fairlady 200ZR. Rare but amazing. And then it was yolo the hell with it with the Z32. 3.0L widebody only!

Good review, but something must be addressed and I’m sure I’m not the only one that thinks so. I really miss when you would go to car meets, shows, museums, or just out in public and rag on builds. Like “Which is best.” I absolutely love those, and I’d like to see more. If he explained why they stopped in a previous video that I just missed, could someone send me the link?
@flyingbodysymphony
@flyingbodysymphony 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t think Mr Regular’s addressed it anywhere, but I can think of two good reasons as to why that’s stopped for the time being One being The Disease™️ still looming large. True, it wasn’t stopping him previously, but I suspect the second reason is more relevant and prominent. Y’know how they’re drumming up money to replace Goldie, RCR’s camera car, between this ad and the Mustang giveaway? That’s probably causing the guys more than a few headaches right now. It sucks when the crux of your business is slowly falling apart and in desperate need of replacement. If it’s still on moratorium after they buy their new 4Runner though, try catching a podcast stream and asking why there. Throwing in a few dollars, if you’re able, will make sure Mr Regular and Roman see it
@indigomer
@indigomer 3 жыл бұрын
@@flyingbodysymphony my guess was something a bit different. I assumed that since the channel has gained a bit of following, it would be hard to him to go to anything local or anything remotely large without being recognized by at least one fan, which would slow down the making of that kind of video since he’s kind enough not to ignore them. But what you said also makes sense. I suppose we’ll find out eventually.

The Z31 model that I’ve always listed after is a Kouki Model 200ZR; the last of the inline 6 Z cars. I’ve loved the Z31 ever since one of my buddies had an N/A 2+2 model that we used to bomb around town in while blasting Dragonforce. It only had 160hp, but to a couple of young 20-somethings in the mid 2000’s, it was unadulterated fun with t-tops

Fun fact. In Serbia, we have same tax per displacement law. Lowest bracket is under 1150cc, because Yugo was 1148. Next is up 1300, 1500, 1800, 2000 and over 2000. If you have car with engine over 2000cc, tax goes form 300$ per year, to 800$ per year. Next is over 3000cc, which is more than 1500, and over that I have no idea. My grandfather lives in Austria and has 2200cc Renault Espace. For him, it is impossible to find a mechanic in Serbia who knows this engine, yet alone parts. It is easier to find parts for Ferrari or 5.0 Mustang, than 2.2L. Because you are either normal, and drive under 2000cc, or very rich and can afford a car over 2L. And then, you will not buy 2.2, but at least 3.5L V6.
