1983 Suzuki GR650 Tempter Scrambler Build and Test Ride | Purpose Built Moto

We turned this Suzuki GR650 Scrambler into a stunner. Livened up by the select performance mods done, you wouldn't recognise the donor bike!

Got my GR650 two days ago and hopefully I can get it to a nice scrambler by next spring. (Upside planet spring) ;) I'll check your blog there, I need to find a fitting front end and rear shock as well. They're just saggy and super soft from factory. Thanks for the video, I appreciate it!

That's a seriously good looking bike. I got my license on one way back when, and ive dusted it off and getting the same bike back on the road again this summer. Ive many times over the years thought it would make a good custom project, but never thought I'd see one this nicely done.

The new shop looks good 👍 Cool looking on / off road style bike 😎. I too wouldn't have put the Speedo off the side of the tank. Pain in the A looking down there to see the speed. The front end, pipes, seat & paint etc looks great. Does look tough riding it along 🏍️🤘

I have the same bike and I'd like to upgrade to a lithium battery. What voltage regulator did you use on this? The ones I'm seeing I'm being told won't work on it.

Did much work go into fitting the 310 triple tree/forks/everything to the GR650 neck/frame? I'm in the middle of rebuilding a 650 and love how yours looks

We started with a 220 main and tuned from there. Also blocked off the secondary Intake that comes stock on the GR.

Does the GR 650 have a 360° crank, or 180°? My hearing is playing tricks on me, and I don't think it has an exhaust note similar to a Kawasaki W650, or Yamaha XS 650. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

It's a 180 degree crank, and Suzuki used a balancing shaft to mitigate the inevitable vibrations you get with a 180 degree crankshaft. I personally like 180 degrees more than 360, as far as sound is concerned.

We kept the standard ratio minus 1 tooth on the rear. With the slightly larger circumference of the rear wheel that resulted in a much better cruising RPM on the highway, still plenty of pick up though.

Two things that would be necessary for a REAL scrambler; one: bring that exhaust up where it wont get destroyed off roading, two: pod filters???? are you kidding? have fun cleaning your carbs out after every dusty ride and don't take it near water or rain.
