On my 1985 I went with an aftermarket true dual "off road" exhaust system and fabbed in a universal narrow X pipe. Sounds great and will free up more HP than just gutting that cat.

If you want you could cut and lengthen the rear y pipe and bolt it to the front one.

Hi, great helpful video. Doesn't knocking out the grid material dramatically lower the scrap value? The place i looked at said to send the whole unit intact. I mean the pallium and platinum is what's valuable, so i'm confused. i'd like to do this to my C4 to reclaim some from the metal value before i sell it (and of course enjoy the sound until then ;]

make a test pipe, leave cat on for test then stick on test /straight pipe in place of the cat.

You seem to know quite a bit about exhaust. Can you help me out. My 1993 Corvette has a strong fune upon start up. I don’t have any gas leaks or see anything underneath the car. Do you think it could be a muffler problem or maybe the gaskets from the catalytic converters are missing? I didn’t know these bolt on and off.

IDK? I'm guessing that the gas smell is coming from the exhaust? Car could be running rich for various reasons? old spark plugs? burnt plug wire causing misfire? Weak spark? A sensor out of adjustment/bad? A leaky fuel injector? and lots more....so, hard to help out on this over the computer? Exhaust leak? Hopefully a easy fix?

I thought it was running rich but ran codes and got one that said left bank lean O2 sensor. I haven’t replaced it yet but I was told that if the smell is immediately when I start the car up cold, then it’s probably not the O2 sensor causing that because it only kicks in when the car gets up to temp. I do notice when my car gets up to temp in about 5 mins, the check engine light comes on. But I agree, it could be a list of things wrong. I need to take it to an exhaust shop and see what they tell me. I also need to replace the O2 sensor.

Getting ready to tackle this job in about an hour, from what I can see there’s no sensor or anything to unplug other then just unbolting the converter and then bolting it right back up after hollowing it right?

nothing to unplug but, in a later video that I made; I had to remove cat again and remove the tube inside the cat....it made a whistle sound so, make sure you remove that tube....

@@tannersanders9778 yes, you could remove the pipe on the outside and plug the hole, that's what I did but. I also removed my smog equipment...I have videos on that. Or you could leave pipe attached and just remove the tube from inside the cat and still connect pipe from outside the cat. You'll see what I mean as you do the job. Good luck

the tube on cat is from the air pump , the air pump helps burn unspent exhaust gas , to hell with catalytic converters , good job

This doesn't have the front 2 converters but, yes on a buddy's 86 Vette . A little harder to do but, it could be done
