My parents bought an 84 Monte Carlo brand new in November of 83 when I was in kindergarten. We had put 180K miles on it by the time I was in 6th grade, put an old 350 in it, and that is what I ended up driving throughout much of high school. It still sits at my parents' place, awaiting restoration.

Man, when I first saw the Pontiac Fiero back in 1984 as a 11 year old kid I drooled for a day! I thought it was the coolest car ever. It was a red one with the sweet original Fiero wheels. Exactly as shown here. It was exiting for me back then. And seriously, GM selling a fully loaded Chevrolet Cavalier as a Cadillac. LOL!

"Limited Edition Grand National" If only anyone knew at the time what a powerhouse that car would be in the coming years. 80's GM styling was hit and miss here and there but the Cutlass, Regal, and Monte Carlo G-Bodies were some handsome cars.

>Tool0GT92: They also had a line of heavy duty diesels along with class 7-8 semi trucks, they made busses and RV's, Cadillac made limos straight from the factory. GM has hit rock bottom in 2018 trying to become a company focused on girly ass crossovers and SUV's. The innovative automotive leader that was once GM is no more.

I drive a 83 chevy Chevette as my every day car, No frills slow. But ole reliable and very versatile as far as being able to fit everything from groceries and furniture to a full size refrigerator. She's almost 40 years old and still gets up in the morning and goes any place I need to go. I love my Chevette. They really aren't bad cars not even close to what those "top 10 worst cars" list's say about them.

Great to see so many classic GM rear drive cars(G and B bodies) when they were in their prime! Now a days, most of these cars get a bad rap of being ghetto/gansta cars. I'll never forget driving(in the mid 00's) my Chevrolet Caprice into a city in Georgia and being warned by a complete stranger....."better be careful driving that car into some neighborhoods, they'll think you're acting hard!" LOL Back when these cars were still being made, they were just respectable, honest, reliable family cars, sometimes used by Government Agencies/ Cabbies. I still love them despite their modern day reputation! Long live the GM B & G bodies!

Hilarious that GM wouldn't offer one of those 4 cylinder turbo engines in the Fiero. Even better would have been the later Quad 4 engine. Then the Fiero would have been a serious sports car!

It also would have outperformed their pony cars and even the corvette most likely. So they hamstrung the fiero and wasted a potentially great little platform. But lots of folks are still modding them with various newer gm engines making lots of power

The turbo-diesel Oldsmobile briefly mentioned in the video apparently _was_ just a rumor, as I can't find any record of such a thing actually existing. Oldsmobile did develop a "tuned induction" 4.3L V6 diesel and demonstrated it to the press in 1983, which they claimed provided almost as much extra power as a turbocharger, but that too never entered production.

In my college days, a friend had a Fiero that ended up unable to make left turns, so to get anywhere, he had to "spiral down" to his destination, like a moebius shell.

Did anybody notice the wheel lock on the Pontiac 1000? Was theft of these a problem?
@LrulestheworldM8
@LrulestheworldM8 6 жыл бұрын
I don't think so, because nobody wanted to steal those. Not even the people that owned them. They were put together with cheese grader metal, and they fell apart right off the lot. Much like the cobalt/cruze of the modern age. GM never learns, because they dont care.

The entire radio unit was on a swivel, similar to a computer monitor. It supposedly allowed both driver and front passenger to access the radio unit by swinging it towards them to change stations, etc., featured an upright loading cassette(like a boom-box). Very trendy and very 80s LOL
