This match actually went on for close to 15mins. I saw an uncut version on video about 30 years ago. Yahara was great, but Kagawa’s concentration is unsurpassable.

Would have liked to have seen that. 2 of the very best. Been hit by Yahara about 30 years ago, and I'm sure I can still feel it. He was ,and still is one tough guy. Both are Great instructors . Ps liked the video of Yahara and yourself sparring at the old JKA headquarters.

@@williephimister3077 Yes, that clip surprised me by its existence. I was gulping down the Yahara Kool-aid at the time and loved those interactions, however dangerous. My memoirs are coming out soon and the two big characters in my life for about 10 years were Yahara and Kagawa. And they couldn't have been more different as people, as karate-ka and in their attitudes to me.

@@richardamos3173 Yes both are at the top of the tree, but as you know more than most of us how different they are. If you are writing a book about your time in the JKA , amongst other things then I look forward to reading it.

I trained at the jka when they were at their best, I always like Yahara's style and tried to copy him. He was great, however he lost often, it is his timing, he is not patient and attacks without setting his opponent. He does not care and emphasis on his speed and aggressivity. Yamamoto was the best in competition in my opinion, his timing was perfect almost all the time.

Sensei Kagawa won the match and Sensei Yahara won the battle.

Yahara is still regarded as one of the very best. Asia sensei himself said Yahara was the best fighter of JKA. And Osaka was best Kara exponent. High praise indeed. I still like Yaharas fiery style and outlook on martial arts

You can see that Master Kagawa was hit hard on the first attack....his lip was swollen and bleeding and you can see the blood on the right sleeve of his gi.....nevertheless he didn`t complain(Like todays “papertigers” may have done..??).. but fought on and won the match...respect..!!🤜🦵💪

Been there, my sensei once clocked me in the face, 3 stitches to close the cut, a headache for a few days & lots of bleach to bring the gi jacket back to white.
