Born and raised in Maryland & still remember watching this game!..was 17' & Len Bias was without a doubt my favorite basketball player at the time! He put some of those Md teams on his back even when they had other good basketball players!

Len Bias made an explosive 2-handed dunk in the first few minutes of the game. Jordan had that dunk in the back of his mind when "Rocked the Cradle" dunk to end the game to send a message to Lenny. Jordan never forgets! This was the first time that he showed that killer mentality back at another elite player.

I grew up in a DC suburb in MO CO...My Dad was born n raised a few miles from Chapel Hill..I loved some UNC...But I also was and am a basketball Junkie...That Maryland team went on to win Leftys ONLY ACC championship.....I know Gatlin personally and he was never scoring minded ...He so loved to make BIAS n BRANCH be the scorers...Now Heels had SO much talent on that squad that they almost werereally still in the early part of ACC season learning about eachother...If u remember Kemnny Smith broke a wrists a few weeks later and that killed the season...I am always a UNC guy but I loved ME SOME Lenny..I saw his mother speak twicw...I played summer ball vs Lennys brother Jay ...who died 2 yr later

Bias was only a sophomore in this game, and nobody improved by leaps and bounds the way Bias did. By his senior year, all he lacked was a handle. The explosion of Wilkins, the mid-range of English, the low post agility of Olajuwon. What a loss.

MD upset UNC the year before by using unique defense. Herman Veal did an excellent job on Jordan that night. This was Lefty's last team at UMD that was a National Championship threat.

@@darylcopeland5244 I don't need to, I know how well he played. I have a poster in my classroom that says Jordan is the greatest basketball player ever. The fact remains MD upset UNC in 1983 at Cole & Herman Veal did an excellent job that night w/the defense Lefty used. Jordan didn't score a point the first 14 points of the second half.

I'm here because Coronavirus 🤷♂️ nothing else to do it's 2020.. so I'm watching old Oper Court footage on KZbin with the host Ej Johnson an on one episode Kenny Smith was talking about how when Michael Jordan did that end of the game dunk at 1:15.05 they he mentioned to him when he did that dunk he thought he took off to far that's the reason why he cup the ball like he did to get more lift to get to the basket 🤦♂️ 😱😲

Why do announcers all but CLIMAX whenever Jordan dunks?!? ANYbody should be able to dunk when they're 6'6" and about 165 lbs!! I'm 5'11" 235 lbs and I'M able to grab the rim!! unking is extremely overrated!! If Jordan had more faith in his jump shot,he wouldn't HAVE to personally"PLAE"the ball into the rim!!

Still amazed that this UNC team lost to a bunch of 5 white starters from Indiana in the tournament, none of whom had any NBA impact. But I guess that's the beauty of college basketball. 2 twenty minute halves. Anything can happen.
