My first true love was the 86 model 250r. I think I was 21 when I was able to afford one used lol. I rode it a short time before disaster struck and the push rod for the clutch blew out of the crankcase. So I tore it completely down and began a complete rebuild from the ground up. Never got to finish....girlfriend got pregnant and it wasn't long before I had to sell it 😕 but there will be one in my life again. Hopefully an 86' or 87' 200sx . @ATVonDemand10 жыл бұрын
Sorry to disappoint but we did indeed use our stock test machine for the project. It wasn't a showroom piece but being in good condition meant that we wouldn't have to replace every little part to have good reliability. We even used the stock crank, although we wouldn't recommend building a race motor with a 30 year old crank. Your thinking is why we worked so hard to modify the stock components rather than cobble something together using parts off some newer sport quad. If this machine were ever sold, it is still an ATV250R, not something that was hacked up to add parts that weren't designed to fit. We too appreciate those remaining perfect stockers.

Do you think it's worth to take a 1983 250r and make it a race capatable one?
@ATVonDemand8 жыл бұрын
If it is in good shape to start with, sure. It's not quite as fast or good handling as the 85-26 ATC250R, but today's riders aren't quite as fast as they were back in the day. Sorry, its true. That being said, we'd bet you could build a pretty competitive vintage racer out of one, especially of you already own one in good shape.
