Compare that iroc with other 1985 cars and that thing is so freaking nice. It’s really ahead of time compared to others back then.
@jasperdomacena64912 жыл бұрын
Looks dated to be honest.. if you compare it to the Brit's 1985 Ford Sierra Cosworth the Cossy would look way modern than this.. a Non Car Guy would say the 85" Sierra Cosworth's from the late 90s or even early 2000's 🤷 and the 85" Camaro looks more like a late 70s European Sports Car. (take a look at the 1978 Renault A310, yeah you can see the Camaro.)

The name IROC on the IROC-Z in this clip, stood for International Race of Champions. It was a classic one-make racing series that lasted from 1974 to 2006, and featured some of the top race drivers in the world. Chevy Camaro was the exclusive car for the series from 1984 to 1989, when Chrysler began supplying Dodge Daytonas until 1993, followed by Avengers until 1996, when GM reclaimed vehicle supplier status, this time with the Pontiac Firebird Trans Am until the series ceased operations in 2006.

My mom bought one brand new in 1983 when she got hired at westinghouse my dad always crapped on her for buying the V6 yet he drove it to work everyday. Later that year she found out he had a lady from work driving it and she wrecked it. My moms new Camaro t top wrecked cause of some side lady. Well parents divorced a year later. My mom ended up with the house me and a new black Iroc and my dad was alone living at his fathers house with a 81 New Yorker lemon yellow lol

I had an '85 Sport Coupe that we bought new, that I took to college for the next four years. It was midnight blue, and it looked gorgeous on the outside. But, MAN, what a lemon that thing was, it was continually broken. I remember one nifty flaw, was that the starter was too close to the engine block, and the engine would actually burn them and they had to be replaced all the time. Lousy car, but it did look good- which, hey, was all that really mattered to 18 year old me!

7:13 And an optional hatch release button in a place you can actually use it, instead of that stupid yellow button that you always had to open the glovebox to get at, like damn it GM why is everything good always an option, like that should have been standard on everything, and even the corvette guys had to do that same stupid open the glovebox and push the yellow button thing too. which, while sounding petty, was actually always a huge pain in the ass as you always had to reach over into the passenger seat, grab the handle, open it, press the button, hold it, and sometimes do it two or three times to get it open.

@@chrisburns5691 that's true. Pretty sure my 83 Z28 was a daily driver for a good portion of it's life. It's a rust belt car, hatch hinges and ttops leak. Drivers floor and both lower quarter panels need to be replaced. Seems like everyone spent their money on buying the car, and not in taking care of it or storing them. Doesn't help gm didn't undercoat any of them.

@@ToriL97 for sure. Mine was the same year! Red z28, with black and grey interior. Cross fire injection, with a shift kit and 3:73 rear end, Flowmaster exhaust... it wasn't fast by today's standards, but it was fun and had good torque. When you floored it the hood flaps would fly open, lol lots of fun. Beat a 5 litre mustang of the same year, also beat an 86 442, 97 Acura integra type R. Sometimes I wish I had kept it, put a TPI motor in it. Oh well, I have a boat now lol. Good luck with the car. They will be the next collectibles.

Smog was up, CARB was taking over and CAFE regulations started eroding the market for performance minded consumers. Oil embargo. Japan was exporting models with thinner steel unibodies that got better fuel economy. Really 1982-3 was when the power numbers started coming back thanks to electronically controlled tuned port injection.

@FoDaddy2 жыл бұрын
The U.S. spec Supra of the time had 161 HP, and there was no turbo model available. Compare apples to apples here.
@Carl_Jr4 ай бұрын
First, the Celica Supra was a performance package available in 1985 and with the best engine (161hp) ran 16.1 seconds in the ¼ mile. The Z28 was offered with the LB9 w/215 HP and ran the ¼ mile in 15.0 seconds. The 1JZ wasn't even produced until 1990 and was only available in Japan at that time. Even so, if it would have been available in the USA it would cost around $25k USD. The IROC-Z was less than $12k USD.
