1985. One of my favourite Daytona 500 of all time apart from many others.

One thing I realize after rewatching these old races. Man they had a hard time keeping up lap counts on the whole field. This race in particular Bill Elliot probably had 2 laps on everyone at the end.

Had they not held bill on that pit stop he would have laped field. if he didn't that was a strong car . fastest car ever he might have run 212 .809 in 87 but this car here made up 5 miles under green which is incredible but what isn't ever talked about an you will not find any footage of it was the first twin 125 for this race elliot laped ever car except 2 place waltrip an he was 39 seconds ahead of waltrip in a 125 mile race thats getting it done.i edited this I had forgotten I saw Ken Schrader in an interview a couple months ago he finished 10th which normally would be great an is but showing how strong ellliot was Schrader was only 10 laps down to Elliott thats jus crazy how strong that car was an Elliott was smart enuff to never show what he realy had jus like making up 5 miles they don't tell the whole story of how he made that up in 70 laps 0r 80.cant remember f I r shure how many It was way less than a hundred

Anyone know the name of the song played during the intro?
@KingFraggle Жыл бұрын
It’s a live performance of “Crunchy Granola Suite” by Neil Diamond, from the album Hot August Night. Hope this helps!

@@KingFraggleI love this song, in part because of how on the radio, Art Bell on Coast to Coast AM would use it so much as bumper music, and sometimes after hearing it on Saturday nights during Art Bell Somewhere in Time repeats of his classic shows, I would seek out this full intro of the 1985 Daytona 500, as just did tonight on Saturday

Great, classic Daytona 500. The CBS coverage with Ken Squier anchoring was the best in the sport.

1985 1. Austin City Limits in its 10th season, and Austin City Limits celebrated its 10th anniversary. 2. Muppet Babies in its 2nd season. ESPN introduced its current logo. 3. Jeopardy! in its 2nd syndicated season.

Knight Rider at the time the 1985 Daytona 500 was run, was in the second half of their 3rd season. Also, in this NASCAR season, it would be the final year that the GM team would run their original cars. Chevy and Pontiac would run their cars before they added the slant back rear window in 1986. Oldsmobile and Buick running the original Cutlass GN and Regal GN and Buddy Arrington's team would run the Chrysler Imperial before switching to Ford for the Talladega 500 in July.

Is there any video for the 1985 Twin 125s? I have not been able to find any.

Three months after this video was uploaded, Buggy Boy was terminated. Even worse, he can’t remember the password to his original account Buggy1Boy to where he probably hasn't created a new password for his original account. It was music related on some parts which led to his account getting terminated. Even worse, the capture for VCR broke so it’s unlikely he’ll ever come back to KZbin. I learned all of this from Austin LaPlante.

Bill Elliott's Tbird or engine should be in a Hall of Fame museum somewhere.

The 1985 Daytona 500 is the FOURTH fastest ever at 172.265 MPH as of February 17th, 2020. The 1980 as they mentioned is THE fastest still at 177.602 MPH. The 1987 running is the SECOND fastest ever at 176.263 MPH. The famous 1998 running is the THIRD fastest at 172.712 MPH, and finally the 1981 running is the FIFTH fastest at 161.651 MPH. In 62 runnings of the Daytona 500 those are the Top 5 fastest: 1980, 1987, 1998, 1985, 1998. This year Denny Hamlin won at an average speed of 141.110 MPH in a race extended to 522.5 miles/209 laps. In fact those five Daytona 500's are the only ones to be completed in with a time under 3 hours. The SIXTH fastest in 1990 is the fastest to go just over 3 hours, only 59 seconds shy at 3:00:59.

But it all just depends on how many caution laps were run in a given race. Ken Squier's constant obsession with race records was annoying, as it seemed that he didn't even realize the effect caution flags had on average speed. The 1987 500, the last one before restrictor plates, had the fastest green flag laps ever run, so I would consider it the "fastest."

**FACTS BEFORE the 1985 DAYTONA 500** · Terry Labonte was the 1984 NASCAR Cup champion after narrowly beating Harry Gant. Rusty Wallace was the best rookie by quite a bit. · The schedule was shortened to 28 rounds after the Nashville Fairgrounds would no longer host NASCAR Cup races. · Only a handful of top drivers changed seats before the 1984 season. Cale Yarborough switched to Ford, Buddy Baker became a co-owner of his own team and chose the GM #88 and Rusty Wallace didn’t change teams but changed to the GM #2. · Labonte started from the back in the Clash, quickly made his way up and just dominated it. Only stories were Pearson’s T4 crash and 3 out of the other 12 starters having severe engine troubles. · Bill Elliott got the pole at over 205mph with Cale Yarborough in 2nd, a Ford 1-2. · Elliott crushed the competition all the way in a Duel 1 with no crashes. Terry Labonte, Tim Richmond, JD McDuffie and 3 more drivers all had big engine troubles. · Yarborough dominated Duel 2. Tom Sneva and Donnie Allison had engine troubles early on, then Jody Ridley, Trevor Boys and Clark Dwyer all were involved in a multi-car crash and during the rest of the race names like Bobby Allison, Morgan Shepherd and several more all had engine troubles. · The list of non-qualifiers included names like Jody Ridley, Davey Allison, Tom Sneva, JD McDuffie and Randy LaJoie.
