The race you are about to see appear as originally broadcast and may contain imagery that is offensive and doesn't align with NASCAR's values. NASCAR has since permanently banned the display of the confederate flag at all events.

For me Nascar was the most iconic and had the best cars from 1967 to 1989, maybe 2000. I fell away from it when I was taking care of my parents and then after my parents passed away so I can't really comment on how Nascar was from 1990 to 2000. However the 70's were so amazing and the cars were absolutely incredible!

i’ve committed to watching in order from ‘81 to ‘90, both Daytona and Indy. watching these races was a big deal in my youth, but luckily for me, I don’t remember who won in which years. So next for me is Indy from ‘82. 🏁 👍

When drafting ruled. I enjoy watching the older races much more than the present era races. As far as this old boy is concerned, the France NASCAR glory days r gone forever while the DEI current era has gone to the dogs.

*STORIES during the START of the 1982 NASCAR CUP SERIES* · The 1981/82 transfer market saw plenty of movement for the 2nd year in a row. Rudd got Dale's #3, Dale got Benny's #15, Benny got Bobby's #28 and Bobby got Rudd's #88. · Allison got a great start to the season when he won the 50-mile 13-car cautionless Clash over Terry Labonte · The front row for the Daytona 500 went for Parsons and Gant with Benny being the 1st driver to qualify at Daytona at over 196mph · Duel 1 didn't go too smoothly with 5 cautions and many damaged cars. The win went to Yarborough with Parsons finishing 4th. · Duel 2 went smoother (2 cautions) with Baker winning it with Gant only in 6th. · Among the non-qualifiers there were some interesting names like James Hylton, Don Whittington and future star Sterling Marlin.

NASCAR has come a long way with track workers and safety personnel. The crews have also come a long way on pit stops, especially when they had to tighten 5 lug nuts.

One thing many don't remember is that this was Jim Stacy's second foray into NASCAR. He had bought Nord Krauskopf's K&K Insurance team in 1977, and even renumbered the car from 71 to 5 (which was likely a major reason why Jim Sauter used that number in this race and why, when Hendrick Motorsports began in 1984, their first car number was 5, as Harry Hyde was the crew chief when Stacy bought that team), and Neil Bonnett won twice that season in Stacy's #5 Dodges, including the final race for the Dodge Charger at Ontario Motor Speedway. Stacy would even run a second car in the Daytona 500 in 1978, in which Ferrel Harris scored a top 10 finish, but as would be the case with Petty Enterprises that year, had nothing but trouble with the Magnum. But they ran into problems for 1979, which coincided with the Wood Brothers' #21 car opening up for Bonnett, effectively resulting in the end of Stacy's first foray into NASCAR, though he would try to make the field for the Daytona 500 in 1980 and '81 in a couple of one-offs, but failed both times, once with Tom Sneva and the other time with Sterling Marlin. He then bought Rod Osterlund's championship team in 1981, but didn't care for Dale Earnhardt, and as a result, went through a couple of drivers until they put Tim Richmond in the car later in the '82 season, and won both races at Riverside. But Richmond left to join the team that Cale Yarborough had driven for, but which had been bought by Raymond Beadle, and Stacy hired Mark Martin for '83, but he fired him, even after some good runs, then hired Morgan Shepherd, only to fire him before selling the team to crew chief Robert Harrington, who failed to qualify for that year's Daytona 500 with Sneva, before that chapter of NASCAR history, full of Stacy's shady dealings, fortunately, and mercifully ended.
