God how i can relate to this video!!! Magnum pi, growing in the 80ies, the posters in the bedroom, the childhood dream, the wait until you are almost 50, the terror of buying a Ferrari, the terror of owing a Ferrari, how every single sense of logic inside you tells you "do NOT do this", yet you follow your heart.... Great video, thank you for sharing!!! God bless you and your family

Very happy you finally got your dream car. That became my dream car when I was 8 years old, watching ‘Magnum P.I.’ at my grandma’s house during my parent’s divorce. ‘83 QV US spec is my first choice. I had two 308 posters + one Testarossa spyder on my bedroom wall as a kid, along with 3 Revell ‘Magnum P.I.’ Ferrari kits; one still new in the box. 👍🇮🇹

I'm watching this in June 2024, so hope Ervin's parents have visited him since covid times and have enjoyed his beautiful 308 with him! Love Ervin's story - it's pretty much the same as mine, having bought my 328 in my early 50s. I adore the cars of this era which we grew up admiring as young lads - to my mind they are fascinating in their style, some of their idiosyncrasies, the sounds they make, and the raw driving experience that was dialled out of cars since the 90s. I wish Ervin was local to meet for drives and chats, but as I'm in the UK it's not possible. Keep on enjoying your 308 Ervin if you read this! 😀

I found one when I was a kid, and I fell in love with it. It was a '79. The last carbureted 308. Red/Saddle. This was in 1983 and it was 5k for a tune-up in L.A. Everyone traded-up just before the major tune-up mileage. You had to drop the whole Power-pack out the back. Engine, trans and rear end. My dad scared me away from it, so I bought a Vette instead. Then a neighbor comes by and introduces himself. He has a warehouse full of Ferrari parts, and all the tools and manuals! He told me I messed up not buying it, and he was not wrong.

Great story! This has inspired me to start saving for my dream car as well. I'm 42 years old, and I've made it my goal and set out a plan to save for an early 90's Acura NSX or Ferrari 308, so I can purchase one when I'm 50 just like Ervin. I'm a school teacher, so I'm not loaded, but with a side-gig, patience, and time I believe I can do this!
@smittywilohio6471 Жыл бұрын
That car is why I became a loyal fan of watching Magnum P.I. You got a great example and you're very fortunate to have found such a beautiful car. Congratulations-your patience paid off! It is good you didn't wait too long. I did wait too long, now I can easily afford a Ferrari but I have health issues that would be problematic in safely driving a sprots car as it is built for. Yes, most examples seem to have tan leather interiors, I remember decades ago seeing a 308 GTS at a foreign car repair and sales shop. It was white with a red leather interior-I really wanted that car, have never seen another like that. The Ferrari of my dreams is the BB512 Boxer. Living in Ohio I have only seen about three of them all these years-I'm 67. Saw lots of different models when I vacationed in California.

I have the twin (1985 Ferrari 308 QV same interior/exterior) that I told my Mom I would buy when I showed it to her in the Buyer's Guide when I was a kid (which I still have). I loved Magnum PI and had the 308 Revell Magnum Model on my shelf the I put together. I loved how I could raise the lights on that model too. I achieved my goal and bought it in 2006. It is a 100 pt concours show car with many awards. I love it! Thank you for sharing this video.

Thanks Ervin! Your video was great to watch. I came late to the 308. My mother would not have allowed posters to hang on my walls when I was in my teens in the 70s, though I did have a bulletin board. But if she did they probably would've been American cars. Thoughout the 1980s, while in my 20s, I worked the overnight shift and did not watch evening television so missed Magnum P.I. Of course I was aware of the program. I am making up for it now by seeing it in re-runs and have fallen in love with the 308. Over the years I have not had anything special regarding vehicles. At 20 I got a new 1979 Trans Am. Those years were not kind to 'muscle' vehicles; the American muscle years were thought to be over with forever. I still have the TA, though it is not runing. At my age now I've been thinking a lot about older Porsches but the 308 has caught my eye. Thanks for sharing your passion and your family story.

Thanks for sharing your story, Daniel. Hopefully the Trans Am will see another day on the open road and share a space within your garage next to a beautiful Porsche or the 308. I hope you enjoy the other interviews on the channel. Thanks for watching.
