1985 Mercedes w123 300d manual I’ve just found.

I’ve been looking for a decent w123 300d manual that for a few years now, finally found one. I’ll start working through it over the next few months, first up though is a respray and a new aerial. Mechanical bits and interior is in excellent condition.
It isn’t for sale, will just share progress updates to show what is possible in these brilliant old
Mercs.

Why would you want a manual over an automatic? Here in Germany every enthusiast knows that a Benz is better with an automatic transmission, especially the w123 and w124s

The manual removes the headache of the vacuum timing used in the autos, also lasts much longer and fuel efficient

Manuals are simpler, more reliable, faster, more fuel efficient and are a pleasure to drive.

@@oldmercguy it's not a pleasure to drive a w123 manual, they suck. Same as the w124. The automatic transmissions easily run 500k+ km if you change the oil every 100k or so. Why would you care about 0.5l/100 km when you are already driving a very inefficient car by today's standards?;

In YOUR opinion. I however having owned Mercedes’s for the last 4 decades, having owned a Mercedes restoration business, having sold over 600 older Mercedes’s, having run a Mercedes enthusiast platform with over half a million followers and being the owner of a highly rated international supplier of classic Mercedes spares, disagree.
